It will certainly be a tough game. Torquay are shaping up nicely on their return, having only lost twice in 10, scoring 8 goals in their last 3 away fixtures.
As mentioned it will be a good way of seeing the character of the squad, hoping we can summon up some of that “underdog” spirit which hopefully will see a few of our players play out of their skins to propel us into the next round

Out of interest qualifying for the 1st round 6 seasons on the trot as a non league club is a new record for the club and another milestone set since we returned home so well done all concerned. Only as "a non league club" or as a club?
I also want to ask, and its a genuine question despite being somewhat pedantic, whether you're saying it's a club record or a non-league record? I've assumed just a club record but the wording does allow for either option.
As Maidstone United we have been in the 1st round 7 seasons on the trot previously (85-91) but as a league club we didn't have to qualify on 3 of those occasions, so yes a record for Maidstone United. Not sure what the non league record is for continuous 1st round qualification, will try to find out.

There are several players, like Wishart and Amaluzor, who should be doing their best in this game to show other clubs, and indeed themselves, that they are capable of playing at a higher level. We also have a few who have come up from lower leagues who, hopefully, will be busting a gut to put one over a higher league team. Torquay will not be looking forward to coming here, as they have everything to lose. Potential therefore for an exciting game. Hopefully. Any news on when the Chippenham game will be played now?

I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think Amaluzor can raise his game at the minute. I reckon he thought he was number 1 but others are stealing his thunder, Wish, Matt, Akanbi etc. I hope I’m wrong

For the middle one of those 7 ( 1988/89) we were 1 of 4 non-lge clubs exempted to R1 on the basis of our run the previous season

Just a club record, Yeovil have a 7 and Hereford 55/6 until they got into the League in '72 will take some beating. Our appearances in the Proper rounds: 74/5 78/9 80/1 82/3 83/4 85/6 86/7 87/8 88/9 89/90 90/1 91/2 (so 7 years in a row but 3 as a League club) 14/5 15/6 16/7 17/8 18/9 19/20 Taken from www.fchd.info/MAIDSTOU.HTM - looking at this website, we were properly dreadful in 1967/68! One more defeat than last season. P38 W3 D4 L31 F26 A131 10PTS POS20/20 Year before I was born, but without mentioning any names some of our older fans might remember that season?

Back in the old Conference days, didn't we start at 4th qualifying round, even when we weren't exempted to the first round proper?
A lot easier than having to play three games just to get into the bloody Cup!

Wow yes that Hereford record is quite something although they did start from the 4th qualifying on each occasion, I certainly think ours is a 21st century record and one to be proud of.

Sutton managed 7 consecutive seasons in the late 80s/early 90s.

That's why I have no complaints about the way we have performed since reformation. I still say we were unlucky when Sutton beat us 0 - 9 at home....

I recall that season. Not good! I lived in Ramsgate during the week when at college there. Remember seeing the Stones at Margate in the Kent Floodlight Cup when we lost yet another game. Conceded 10 corners in succession. Often think about that season when people complain nowadays.
