Bit odd that JS and Hak are having a public spat over one of their players taking a penalty on a Saturday.
Surely that should be done in the dressing room - or better still on the pitch during the game itself?
I feel sorry for the player - surely his Manager or Captain should have been giving him guidance?

I can see why Olutade wanted it. He is a striker who thrives on scoring goals and thought the scoring of the goal would give him confidence to surge on in his Stones career, sadly it didn’t quite work like that. Yes Kyei should obviously had taken it but I don’t think you should be blaming a striker for wanting to take it. All strikers should be taking them in my book!

Agreed, but there must be team orders and was certainly surprised Kyei didn't take the second one as well. More of a good save than a bad penalty, seeing the highlights.

Personally I'm on the side of having a regular penalty taker, and therefore agree that Kyei should have taken it, but my point is why is John resorting to KOL to lambast his player publically?
If there were team orders, why was Olutade even allowed to take it at all - surely George or Hak or John should have intervened?
Or did they intervene but young Olutade just ignored everyone, in which case yes, that's a deserved real ear-bashing and disciplinary for him - but once again, in the dressing room not on KOL, surely?
Just doesn't seem to fit with the George inspired dressing room team spirit and the "Uncle John getting the best out of his boys" style I thought we had - going public is more like a Clown tactic!

I wouldn't exactly call it lambasting. He simply says Olutade shouldn't have taken it and he'll be talking to him about it. I guess that's when the real lambasting will happen.

OK, lambasting may have been a strong word, but I for one would not appreciate my manager criticising me for a decision I made in the press at all, let alone before even talking to me first.

A would agree with you but for one thing. If he was asked a direct question by the reporter it would be a difficult one to give a non-committal answer to.

I think John is experienced and savvy enough to deal with reporters questions after all these years! He must have dealt with hacks far worse than those from KOL!
No, for whatever reason he has hung Olutade out to dry publically and that's not who I thought JS2 was. Hopefully this is just a one-off!

slight over reaction I think, as Dave has quite rightly said he was asked a question which he answered its not unusual for the manager to say something many other managers have done likewise, obviously if he had scored this wouldn't have raised its head as the question wouldn't have been asked

He’s the boss and just letting the player know that

We sat near the away dugout and neither of them shouted anything about who should take it.

Not exactly uncommon for players to argue over penalties. The best I've seen is DiCanio wresting the ball out of (I think) Lampard's hands as he was about to place the ball!
Easy enough to avoid though - make it clear to players who the nominated pen taker is, and the captain ensures the right player takes it. Surely this is one of the (few?) justifications for having a team captain? After all, there's not much the manager can do stuck in the technical area.

Why did it have to go public and not have been sorted on the pitch or from the dug out? Lets put it down to the team not knowing each other yet
