26 and only ever played NS and below. But this is the biggest move in his career, a chance to play in front of decent crowds, a chance to play in the NL in a year or two. He is going to play his boots off. We'll find out just how good JS2's ability to spot players is. Personally, I feel a lot more positive about this signing than I have about any for ages. This is also his first full time club so hopefully can develop beyond what he has managed with previous clubs. I realise our version of “full time” is not what all clubs use but as we are being positive this must be good.

If he was approached by JS2 before the end of last season I’m sure this is why he let his deal expire with St Albans rather than them not wanting him! No news on our list of players in the “in discussion” section of our retained list?? Knight and Swaine together at the back would be one of the tallest pairing we have had in my time watching Maidstone. I have a feeling that we are going to see a new side built almost entirely from NS and below players. I think JS and HH's priority this season is to build a good NS side, without spending silly money. Build a side, get it to gell, see how it does. And build from that. I'd be surprised if that includes many (or any) NL players, and almost certainly no ex-EFL.

I suspect you are correct, however I would class Swaine as NLS level where he played most of his football before this season. JS2 and HH would often praise Swaine when he played and stated he was missed when he didn’t!

I don't have any particular feeling about him, as I haven't seen him play enough - certainly not in settled side! But, with players like him, it might just be down to wages anyway.

Hopefully with taller players we will stop conceding from set pieces and hopefully score a few ourselves from them too. I can see us having a more physical team this season.

Don't know if this has slipped everyones veiwpoint, but Lewis' name does not start with a J and is not Jack, Jake or Josh. could be hard remembering everyones name in the dressing room if this keeps up.

My biggest hope is an end to the ever revolving door of players coming in and going out on loan. Let's build a settled squad and only use loanees in emergencies.

Well at the age of 26 I'm not sure that he can be regarded as a younger player. He is a fair bit but older than either Finney or De Havilland who both had a better pedigree. But it is a sign of realism I guess that JS2 and HH will be shopping in the bargain basement for most of their purchases. We have seen enough in the last season to appreciate that signing players with EFL backgrounds and the rest is not always the answer. I think it highly likely that we will be seeing a mix of recruits, some with it all to prove like Lewis Knight and others that have delivered successfully above NLS level. But as Hakan as emphasised above everything he wants hungry, passionate and committed players. Something we can all agree with ! Finney an WDH may well have pedigree that you mentioned Nick but if they do they kept it very well hidden last season.

It's interesting to read some positive/optimistic posts following the signing of a player that has only delivered at NLS at best. Hopefully Lewis Knight will turn out to be an excellent signing but I don't think for a moment that it follows that most of our other signings will be from a similar background. I'm pretty sure that we will see a mix of signings with JS2 and HH also wanting to recruit some seasoned players who have delivered above NLS level.

I think hunger desire ambition attitude passion fun winners are they key characteristics in any player now recruited. And all of those were missing from most of our NL players last season. In reality we already had a NLS squad...which is why we finished bottom. John said he wanted hungry players..so far so good.
