Ok, there are some who will hate this, but if so, you neither need to read or comment. This is a chance pick out the bones of this season and try to find some nuggets of truth. Having bought a programme yesterday for the only time this season, a few things immediately stood out from the match and player stats. 49 players used this season, not counting friendlies. WDH has most league appearances with 40, plus another ten in the cup runs. If anyone deserves player of the year, it is probably him. Michael Phillips comes next, with 37 in the league, 8 as sub. Blair Turgot comes next with 28, then Jack Powell with 26 and Simon Walton 24. Turgott the top scorer by a mile, with 12 in the league and 15 overall. Second top scorers and runners up for the golden boot (!) are McLennan, Powell and Amaluzor, each with just three. Of the so called recognised forwards, the others' scoring exploits look pretty grim. Quigley, Loza, Romain, Coker and Shields have not a single league goal between them. Cassidy managed two, Mullings two, Otomayo, Robinson and Embury one each. Enough said. We have had five management teams and seven goal keepers. Reading across the fixtures page and assuming the playing positions go 1-11, plus subs, then it appears each position has featured the following numbers of players: Full Backs (2 & 3) - 8 one side, 10 the other. Centre backs (4 & 5) - 7 one side, 9 the other. Assuming three midfield positions, they feature 8, 13 and 11 different players Likewise the front three show 16, 13 and 10. Is it any wonder we turn out each week looking like we don't know who we are playing with?! WDH has had the following play alongside him at centre back: Finney, Wynter, Wassemer, Swaine, Edobor, Donnellan, Walton, Davies. Considering Finney makes up 23 games, WDH has every right to appear confused later on this season. Finally, for now, not exactly stats, but who remembers any of the following? Norman Wabo - twice a sub in the league Jamie Philpott - one league sub Fagg - sub v Oxford City Florence - sub v Oldham
I don't, but there have been plenty more who are eminently forgettable despite multiple appearances. I will peruse and post some more, but feel free to join in. If you don't like this stuff, just stay away.

I watched Tommy Fagg this afternoon. He played No. 5 for Sittingbourne, but couldn't stop Hastings running out deserved 3 - 0 winners. The programmes had sold out! They obviously weren't expecting one of their largest crowds at 267.

Well thanks for the stat but I still struggle to even consider voting for Player of the Season. personally I think many will opt out of voting altogether. Surely not one player will think they deserve to win which used to be such a cherished award. Maybe the owners would do best to leave it this season.

I certainly recall Jamie Philpot - I thought his brief appearance was quite promising, so I was surprised at the total radio silence from the club.
Looking him up now, it turns out he left the club on 9th Feb (having only joined us on 18th Jan) - He went to Bromley where he got 3 sub appearances before leaving on 10th March.
Two weeks later he joined Barrow (on non contract terms) which was pretty radical given how local he had stayed previously. He's been a starter for every game for Barrow since joing (5 games) although is yet to score - but must have done something right to continue to be selected.
Seems to me that he is more likely to be spending next season in the Conference than most of our current players and maybe he is one that got away.
As he's a local lad I wonder if JS will be keeping an eye on him in case it doesn't work out at Barrow?

Also on the goal scoring stats - surely WDH is in second place I thought he had 5 or 6?

Wabo, Fagg and Florence - purely because of their names.
Probably why we've had such a shit season - not enough weird names.

Although treating Jay like shit and bringing in the Clown might have had something to do with it... Blaming the wrong people there, someone else shit all over jay resulting in his relationship with the owners to turn sour. Fyi it wasn't jay or his family.

He's another like Paxman and Richards, has a bit of talent but not good enough for nl or nls imho.

My stat - lowest attendance ever. Been to 2 games. Started full of optimism v Hartlepool... the other one was at Havant. Many weeks I just looked at the previous match performance, then my bank balance, then stayed at home. The years of getting down to 20+ games a season seem a distant memory... but I hope next season it'll feel worth the effort again, not just for the away games near here but coming back to the Stone too. Plus OS Junior needs a new MUFC fleece, Mrs OS tells me. Off to Didcot v Sutton Coldfield tomorrow. Not been to a game as a neutral for a decade or more...

Blaming the wrong people there, someone else shit all over jay resulting in his relationship with the owners to turn sour. Fyi it wasn't jay or his family. I thought we'd finally got to the bottom of this, but obviously not! What else went on then? My understanding was that Jay accepted the Macc job and then changed his mind (divorce, kids, etc), plus he wasn't happy with the unprofessional way the club was run, so all that created a bit of an atmosphere at JWW. And from then on, Bill and co lost faith in Jay, and Jay struggled pre-season with their luke-warm support. Then the poor start to the season... So what else was going on? But, whatever else was happening, the owners should never have allowed things to deteriorate the way they did. Either they get rid of him, or they support him - in-between was never going to work. Then they sacked him before getting a replacement ready. And THEN they got sucked in by the Clown's PR smooze, and blew the budget they wouldn't allow Jay to use. Whatever else Jay, or A N Other, did or didn't do, the owners and Bill certainly should own up to the majority of the cock-up.

This is where I lose patience with your arguement.
We haven't played winning entertaining football for more that two season now.
Jay was considering the Macclesfield job last summer. Then didn't take it on.
The big mistake by the owners and management was the appointment of HW as the next manager.

The relationship between Jay and and the owners broke down long before last Summer. The only reason he wasn't sacked during the 17 game losing streak was due in part to fear of a fans backlash. Hence why no cash was made available for a goalkeeper coach or significant squad improvements.
