Saturday, 17 January 2009 Tonbridge Angels 2-2 Maidstone United Attendance 948
On our way to a bottom half finish, with an average attendance of around 350 at Bourne Park.
The poison dwarf and Walker were in charge, money was tight, new ownership 18 months away and the Ashford years to "look forward to" or largely avoid.
Would you have believed then, where we'd be now?

Predictions for ten years from now? I still think we can make League Two, crowds of 4-5,000, and local derbies with Gillingham at an enlarged Gallagher on a grass pitch, with Mourinho as Director of Football. Ok, maybe not the last one but the others I still believe in, even if we may wobble around the NL or even the NLS within that ten years.

It was when PBB was still in charge. There was a charity walk to raise funds for the new ground. I didn't go to this game.

Was this the game that Oliver Ash first took his family to against the advice of not to and all hell broke loose and he almost walked away from the club as a result. What particular type of "all hell" broke loose? If I remember rightly Oliver Ash had literally just joined forces with PBB and Tonbridge away was his first away game . He was warned about the intense rivalry between the two clubs and that it may not be the game to take his family to but he did anyway. As for the hell ,well there was a charity walk and I seem to remember an incident with Shaky and there overzealous security staff which got nasty and dozens of people got involved. There was also an altercation in the clubhouse where there was a massive punch up with tables and chairs being quite literally smashed the police were called and the clubhouse remained closed for the rest of the game. On the pitch we were being given a rough deal by the officials and I remember losing it big time with just about every swear word I know being voiced very loudly and within hearing distance of the Ash family. I remember a member of security grabbing my arm but as I turned he saw the look in my eyes and ran to the toilet. Oliver was upset that his family had to witness these events and nearly walked away but PBB reminded him that he was warned not to take the family and ignored the warning. Upon leaving the ground there were upwards of 30 police outside the ground just waiting for trouble luckily there was none well none that I know of

I thought it was because they played the 1970s Stones FA cup campaign song as the teams came out.

Luckily for us, Oliver was made of sterner stuff! All seems a bit sanitised with our segregated games nowadays.

Given the sheer number of Stones fans he was snatched from the grasp of the stewards and whisked to our end of the ground. However, I noted that the stewards were regrouping to come and get him so I went up to the head steward and agreed to keep an eye on Shaky. A such I had to stand behind Shaky for the entirety of the first half and a) make sure he stayed on his feet (no easy task that day) and b) stayed out of trouble.

In ten years time I will probably be watching the game for free alongside Elvis and 100's of other supporters long since passed away, meanwhile IF we reach EFL2 you will doubtless be paying the going rate of around £35 to get in . Crowds of 4-5000 in your dreams only along with your enlarged Gallagher stadium. They maybe able to somehow increase the capacity ,though the easiest way for that is to swap Kent police for that of South Yorkshire and you'll probably get 20,000 in as it is. We cannot enlarge the pitch without removing or relocating the river which would be expensive and problematic. Also enlarging the playing surface would mean having to relay an entirely new 3G pitch as you cannot just rub the white lines out and paint new ones. You think we might be on grass well Malcolm and I are already on it and we cannot see them changing from 3G 👨🚀👨🚀👨🚀👨🚀makes too much money👨🚀👨🚀👨🚀👨🚀. The local derbies against Gillscum would be nice but they will have AFC in front of their name and will be playing Snodland in the South Eastern Counties league by then.

A such I had to stand behind Shaky for the entirety of the first half and a) make sure he stayed on his feet (no easy task that day) and b) stayed out of trouble. It was also the day they tried to throw me out, the bouncer / security guy pushed me into the side of the ambulance that was treating Helen Terrell (club shop) who was feeling unwell after the walk to the ground! I managed to get away and got to the other end of the ground. On my way several Tonbridge fans came up to me and apologised for the behaviour of their so called stewards, the majority of Tonbridge supporters are no different to us, which is why we support non-league clubs! At the end of the game I took a photo of the thug (steward) that had pushed me, he then got very excited and demanded my phone, fortunately there were several police present who told the thug he couldn't take my phone and that he should behave himself Clearly that steward had something to hide, that picture appeared in the next issue of the Bryan Reed's SMTWTGH fanzine I later got a written apology from PBB and the chairman of Tonbridge cant remember his surname Nick someone, he also invited me to be his guest at the next home match! Obviously whilst thanking him for his offer I declined it preferring to watch Maidstone at some other sh!t hole, probably Ramsgate!

As my memory slowly kicks into gear I remember the punch-up in the clubhouse was started by Lloyd Humes brother and his mates and one Tonbridge fan ,and ashamedly cannot remember her real name but went by the nickname BITCH,smashed one of our fans across the mug with her walking stick, nice girl. Sadly have not seen or spoken to her for years and she may no longer be alive if anyone knows any different then please let me know.

I thought I saw that in a scene at the end of an episode of Eastenders, immediately before the doof doofs.
