They are only a "football league club" in the sense that they are in the Football League*.
In any meaningful sense, they are just the side that was lucky to get promoted last season (they were, after all, thrashed by us!) and have done nothing to justify that promotion since. If they were still in the NL, I suspect they'd be struggling to even get into the play-offs this season.

Not sure about being 'lucky' to get promoted as under John Askey's guidance even though they were a small squad they played for each other as a 'team'. However they lost two or three of their best players through retirement and transfer and as a result as I have said previously the Macclesfield team so far this season is no where near as good as last seasons team and certainly does not have the same team spirit with a lot of moaning at each other in the last two big home defeats. Looking forward to my trip from Macclesfield tomorrow to support the Stones though I am bringing with me a non too confident 'Silkmen' supporter so I hope we don't give him something to go home happy about.

I didn't really mean 'lucky', it was just the only word my aged brain could summon up at the time. What I meant was that they didn't really look like likely champions, just an ordinary side that was having a good spell - only the good spell went on all season! I welcomed their success at the time, as it showed that you didn't have to have the big support of an ex-League club, or a sugar daddy buying you success, you could still do it by 'just' having the right manager and the right players. What they did, we could do also. But, unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be enough to stay in the EFL.

Just read on Macclesfield website that Elliot Durrell who was MOM against us at Gallagher last season will play some part tomorrow after returning from long term injury which has kept him out so far this season. He could make an impression so we have been warned.

To all of us normal people they are an EFL club.
