Those were very, very dark days. Hoof ball extraordinary, no plan B let alone a decent plan A …. Depression depression depression ….. that’s why I don’t get “too down” about what happens now ….. only the clown got us close to the Fry era Until the Clown (and excluding 92) the Fry 'season' (85-86) was my low point, but it now seems like nothing much compared to our two recent NL relegation seasons. This could just be memory playing tricks, but Fry was actually sacked with enough of the season left for the returning Bill Williams to keep us up - just, we ended up 17th from 22. (The following season, under Bill, we ended up 3rd.) One bright point from that season, though (which might have helped raise our spirits) is that Dartford were relegated! (21st place in their second season, having made 3rd the previous season - when we finished 13th) My main memories of that season (other than the dire football we played), was of the constant stream of new players, the chant "he's fat and round he tried to take us down", and Fry - towards the end - actually giving up and lying down on the bench! Just when I thought that I had eradicated Barry Fry from my long term memory. It's bad enough seeing Alan Carr on TV, mind you he would have probably been a better tactician than his dad.
