I never said it was down to how many come down each year. Your stats show what I said. Over 30 years more league teams have come down (in total, regardless of the amount of relegation spots). Therefore there are more league teams in a position to get promoted than there were 5/10/20/30 years ago. It really is quite simple. So is he, Ant. Strangely, I also managed to spot that simple fact. He cannot get it. I'm also interested in the fact that he thinks league teams can get promoted out of the NL. Once they are in the NL they are non-league by definition.

Be good to see the list so far . Like this (I think lol) Out of the club's that have been relegated from the FL (not demoted) and had never been in NL before, it would be interesting to know who at any time reached the highest position in the FL. Cambridge United maybe? Or maybe they were NL once before? Could it be one of the current bunch? Well I saw Tranmere play Reading home and away in the semi-finals of the play-offs to get into the top flight. Carlisle United were once at the top of division one after beating Chelsea (1974?). I guess it will be harder get higher than that. Luton have been top flight and Grimsby have been high up in the divisions in the past.

When Carlisle were relegated to the Conference, they became the first club to compete in the top 5 divisions. Oxford and Luton since then, but whether they ever topped the top flight would need further investigation!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_League_(English_football)#Promotion_and_relegation to save everyone some time. Somewhere on the non-league forum I contributed a list of teams who've gone up (eg Stevenage), down (eg Wrexham) and then all the up-down-up combos in between (eg Halifax, Barnet) - it was JDLesque. Will try to dig it out. Here you go - tell me if I've missed anyone... UP Wycombe, Accrington, Morecambe, Burton, Stevenage, Crawley, Wimbledon, Fleetwood, Forest Green, Salford, Barrow, Harrogate DOWN Wrexham, Stockport, Hartlepool, Chesterfield, Notts County UP DOWN Scarborough, Maidstone, Rushden, Boston, Yeovil, Dagenham DOWN UP Colchester, Doncaster, Shrewsbury, Carlisle, Exeter, Oxford, Mansfield, Newport, Luton, Cambridge, Bristol R, Grimsby, Tranmere, Leyton Orient UP DOWN UP Cheltenham DOWN UP DOWN Darlington, Halifax, Chester, Hereford, Aldershot, Torquay, York DOWN UP DOWN UP Lincoln UP DOWN UP DOWN Kidderminster, Macclesfield UP DOWN UP DOWN UP DOWN Barnet

I think we went 'out', rather than 'down'...
