Sympathy and pity to the travelling faithful. Listening to Stoneslive, seems clear that: - we were crap - the officials were crap - Torquay were just as crap, but we have them a goal anyway Sides will relish playing us and somebody is going to have to have a really bad day for us to get any more points by the end of the season. Sadly, seems George has no more idea of how we play than Hak did. He might be a good motivator, but you need more than that in this league. Matches away at Torquay are more like weekends away for many supporters where the football is just a small percentage of the overall experience, uts those doing a day trip that really suffer.

Totally agree with 61666. Football non-existant and seemed to be no plan whatsoever. What happened to the team that played so well against Notts County and Wrexham. Don't think they got two passes together. Bring back the man who got the team to play so well against Notts County and looked to be on a roll as they seemed not to put a pass wrong then. Lot of talk about management team and coaches but how about Team and getting points.

Slight deviation from the tone of this thread - in the Torquay game programme, our nickname is cited as “The Squatters”… I’ve never heard that - is it a typo? Or was that an old reference to the days when we didn’t have a ground? They also listed current Bromley manager Andy Woodman as our manager on the back cover

I will be genuinely sad to watch this team ripped up, we wasted the chance this promotion got us. Turns out a lot was going on behind the scenes but buck stops with lack of investment. = Poor recruitment, not improving on starters. = Sacking staff without replacement = Losing volunteers = Poor communication between club and fans, due to staff losses and increased workload for others = Players unable to voice concerns to anyone at the club about dressing room behaviour = Club culture that took years to build up again, straight in the toilet? Feel free to point out if I missed some. Where do we go from here? New NLS manager has to be comfortable with a further reduced budget, as they cannot be unsupported by staff members, and it is all out the same pot. What I have learned from this year is a polite reminder that we will not invest under any circumstances, beyond club earnings. So without a cup run, the budget cannot increase, and we cannot afford to play at NL level. There will be a bigger sense of dread if we somehow find ourselves in a potential promotion position again, because this is not going to change. Another of our fans talking nonsense First line "I will be sad to see this team ripped up" Second line "Poor recruitment" Last summer everyone on here and the facebook group was panicking oh we need to sign Barham, we need to sign Ellul etc and when people were not getting announced there was panic and whinging those players were signed and on here and facebook there was great delight and now they are all saying oh poor summer recruitment yet the players signed were the ones you all wanted to see and you were all saying would do great in this league.

I sense that the truth may be somewhere between the two views. For sure most supporters wanted the Championship winning team to have a chance in the National League. But we meant the team not the squad. Hak also re-signed a number of bit part players who had not proven themselves. Really good summer recruitment was critical to provide quality signings to enhance the squad. Whatever the excuses Hak failed badly in this respect. Not surprisingly some of the NLS team have not succeeded in the transition to a higher level. Only a very few of the panicky looking loan signings have worked out. All in all we have a ridiculously bloated squad of between 25-30 players. Injuries aside, shocking team building and mis-management.

On the plus side, Nick, my daughters' team came from 2-1 down to win 6-2 today. Two points from their remaining 3 games and they are champs

Did Hak have the budget to go and recruit 10 new players? Did he have the time and team to do so?

Poach their manager for Maidstone United. I was helping with it today. Maybe I'll apply. My secret plan is to play jdl's posts to the other side so they give up on life, in the dressing room. Meanwhile, I'll play Dave U's posts to the Stones players so they come out angry and fired up🤣🤣

A good manager should be able to take the core of a championship side into the division above and build on that to create a successful team for that level. That's pretty much the definition of a good manager! Hak failed at every step of this process - he kept indifferent players, he failed to recruit anyone better during the summer, and he failed to solve the problems in the squad by buys and loans during the season.

Sorry Jdh, must have missed this one. Alternatively, it could be that it is a shame to see a team that was unified in the league below will probably be split up one year later, especially one that could have had promise with the right additions.
One thing we had for the first time since Jay was a unified team (For added clarity, I am referring to last season), all the interviews told tales of players who would run through walls for Hakan. That’s the core point the whole post surrounds.
It also recognises, that it is where we are, and we need to rebuild. Another core point of my post. In other words, no, I never said the whole team or management was good enough at this level. It is however a great shame how events turned out, when you think what could have been done with the firm foundation.
When we were relegated from the National League we had no identity and the entire squad changed. Whilst unlikely, I hope at the very least we keep some players proven from that league below.

Sorry, in case I was not clear, many of our current squad ARE good enough in the division below. The question will be whether the new manager chooses to keep any of that core, or start again in full.
As well as who wants to stay.
The latter is possible, but potentially dangerous in one summer.
What could have been if rather than signing Woods, Cawley et al. We’d strengthened over at least some of the NLS starting eleven.
