Sheps have some really decent beers. 1698, Bishops Finger, Double Stout and the IPA are all very good, plus the seasonal ones like the Christmas Ale and Porter. I steer clear of master brew and spitfire, not because they are awful but because they are no different to a hundred other generic ales you can get anywhere.
And two pints with a meal is fine if it's a proper 3 course meal lasting between 2 and 3 hours.

To be honest mate, you can't really expect every beer from any brewery to be to your taste. I'm personally not a fan of any golden ale from any brewery, and there are Shep beers I won't drink just as there are with any brewery. I'm a big fan of badger ales but I don't like honeydew.

Was in the mood for something different, so walked down Earl Street to the Blu Butterfly bar. An aged DJ was playing decent 80s and 90s tunes to a couple of blokes, with another fake tree on the ceiling. A couple of young ladies came in and ordered something blue, then swiftly departed. As I left, six more young ladies arrived. Not sure who this place is aimed at. Maybe pre-clubbers? I have it on good authority, that Sword, JDL and Dave U are regulars together there.

As I absolutely abhor most music of the 1980's that would be the last place you would find me. Anyway, never heard of it until this post.

As I no longer frequent Maidstone, on my rare trips I tend to stick to places I like where I know people from the past.

We should do a crawl of Maidstone’s less well known drinking venues. The Social Bar, MuMu’s Irish theme pub, The Bier Keller, Players lap dancing club. You forgot the Spitfire Lounge

Right, since the fall of the Swan, where is the best place to watch football near the ground? Feel there's a real lack up that end of town to watch televised games, and the only one i've found is the Duke Of Marlbrough but that's usually quite busy. Anywhere else??

A small walk, but the Old House At Home is looking good after its refurb, and even had a Championship game on last week. Doom Bar is now £2.20 midweek and £2.40 weekends, down from £3.60 before lockdown. Although those prices are attracting a slightly different clientele. Still the best proper pub in the town centre. Does it still have the historic stones photos on the wall?

I will be in there at 13.30 fir pre match beers, prices very reasonable.
