There must be quite a few clubs living on the edge like Macclesfield and Bury were, who would probably have struggled on for a few more seasons in a normal year, but who will get pushed over the edge by this season. Will the bailout be enough to save them? Maybe it would be better if they went - tough for the fans, of course, but maybe a sudden shock of reality would be good for football as a whole? Will we have a much slimmer, but more sustainable EFL and NL in a year or two's time, or will football fudge its way through yet another opportunity to sort the game out? I struggle to have any sympathy with either Bury or Macclesfield purely because they both had promotions in the past couple of seasons. We all know how expensive it is to be competitive at these levels so someone somewhere must have known they were paying more than they could reasonably afford. Fans are always happy to take the promotions and are always in denial about how they're achieved. Surely they must accept at least a proportion of the blame.

Indeed, and a lesson to be learnt for our glory hunters who want to throw this club to the wolves before it is ready to do so.

I have been trying to convince a wealthy friend of mine to invest into Maidstone (he was looking at Charlton), but now he found out the price to rescue Macclesfield a few days ago he is now focused on them.

Why would anyone who wasn't an actual fan of such clubs want to 'invest' in them?

How bad can it get?
Boreham Wood, Chesterfield, Notts County, Aldershot, Dagenham and Maidenhead are all doing worse than Macclesfield, according the the FWP table - even though some of them have played two games!
Macclesfield, meanwhile, despite no longer existing, are 18th - comfortably clear of relegation...

Good to see so many BELTs at the bottom of the National League, and proper non league teams at the top.

Not only are Macclesfield STILL not bottom (Aldershot and Maindenhead, just how bad are your seasons going?!) according to Football Web Pages, but they were also on TV this evening, playing Aldershot.
At this rate, more clubs are going to cotton on and go out of business to improve their season!

There was an odd reference to this on BT Sport's live game yesterday evening, something like ' some news on Macc on Monday, some developments ' ( not sure exactly, was sent half to sleep by Daggers v Other Stones ), so maybe still some legs to this story ?

I believe Macclesfield have been bought by a consortium involving Robbie Savage. Not sure whether it can save their season but should set them up to start lower down the pyramid next season.

Can we say that what has happened to Macclesfield is savage?

I think you will find that it is just confirmation that they will start again next season as AFC Macclesfield or whatever name they choose, probably in the North West Counties league as there is no hope of them playing this season.
