Actually it won't cascade directly down the NPL route. Any reprieves below VNL north and south are decided across the whole step on a points per game basis.

Bolton's situation is interesting - they have already been deducted 12 points and are under a transfer embargo because they went into administration in May, but they also called off last night's game against Doncaster, without consultation, so they could be fined points for that as well. AND they are still awaiting news of any punishment they might receive for not playing their final game last season!
By the sound of it, they have a buyer lined up, so they probably will stay in L1, but they could face a huge minus point handicap.
According to the Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/aug/20/bolton-facing-points-deduction-from-efl-after-postponing-doncaster-match), the administrator took the decision not to play the game due to "welfare concerns" because of having to play young players in 4 games in succession. Seems a bit odd to me, especially as they didn't even bother to tell Doncaster!

re: Bury, the paper today says the owner rejected an offer to buy the club yesterday. Could it be he wants the club to fold, so that he's left with a prime plot of real estate which could be sold for development? I know nothing of the owner's motives or the details of the offer, it's just a thought. It would mean rich men (it's always men) buying football clubs as a means to more wealth (ie asset stripping), but that never happens, of course. Today's the deadline for Bury: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49434347t.co/7G68y1EuHf?amp=1

Ironic indeed how Jim Thompson finally achieved his aim of getting us in the record books.

You can't read that without feeling for the supporters and the town. But the Guardian needs to update its football reporting a bit - "a crowd huddled around a single car, listening to the news", "and we get our name read out on the football results". I know it's tough in t'north, but surely they have the internet and mobile phones up there?

Two hours to go before the EFL deadline and the last news on Bury meting their demands was at 5 o'clock - “As of 5pm there has been limited progress made either by the current ownership providing the required evidence in regard to outstanding financial information, or through a change of control being achieved with new owners.” (EFL statement)

The BBC has a more positive outlook: www.bbc.com/sport/football/49455433Oddly containing a different quote from the EFL, although given at the same time as the Guardian's one. And, of course, the inevitable closing line, "No club has been removed from the EFL since Maidstone were liquidated in 1992." If they do go, we'd better get used to seeing/hearing that a lot in the next few days...

Now the club has apparently been sold I'm expecting the EFL to give them an extension so they can fully complete things.

I imagine you're right, but any extension won't include letting them play tomorrow - and possibly not next Saturday, given how confusing the details of the apparent buy-out are. How long can the EFL sustain a club missing games before they have to act anyway?

How long can the EFL sustain a club missing games before they have to act anyway? To be honest the EFL have made a right mess of this, they should of given them a deadline back in July instead of letting it drag into the season like it has. The EFL should of taken the route of the National League, they ask teams at the summer AGM to show proof they have money to complete the season, If they can't show they have the money they kick them out......none of this pissing around like the EFL have with Bury & Bolton.

They've got until 5pm Tuesday to satisfy the EFL that the sale is kosher. EFL sound pretty determined to kick them out on the dot if they're not convinced though.
