And talking of clubs in the shite - how's this for an inspiring press release...
"David Phillips, chairman of Vanarama National League club Torquay United, has announced he has signed a memorandum of understanding for a takeover of the club by Gaming International Ltd.
They are currently in the process of completing due diligence.
Phillips said: “If and when a deal is completed, this will be wonderful news for Torquay United FC.
“There will be significant finance put into the club.
“It is common knowledge that since the current Board of Directors saved the club from oblivion last June, we have lacked the finance to move forward.
“Unfortunately, this has indirectly reflected in the results on the pitch.
“Among many things proposed by the new investors would be to resurrect the Youth Academy, which would be fantastic news for the club.
“The next month is a critical period in the club’s history. Any distractions, however well-meaning, will have a negative impact. “Any unrest would not help Kevin Nicholson and his team in the great battle to avoid relegation.
“Therefore, I ask our wonderful supporters to remain patient.
“The Board of Directors and I have never stopped working in our quest to take this club forward and re-establish our League status.
“Any other organisations – i.e. Torquay United Fans Ltd. - have no direct connection to the club.”

Does sound bad - top striker gone, manager knows he's going, all decent players know they are going, players wondering if they're even going to be paid... And just a few points above relegation. But as much as I think they've only got was they deserved, we could do with them putting on at least one do-or-die performance before they go down! well, i kind of feel bad for them, but the thing that worries me the most is the easy 3 points sutton will get when they go to hartsdown. can't think of a much more dispiriting situation for a team to have to go through, and can't see them putting up much resistance against sutton. though as you say the threat of relegation may push them a bit given they're only 6 points above st albans. but then if none of them are going to be there next year, will they actually care?

That's what I thought - what can you do the ground with £50k - let alone with the change left from £50k, when you've spunked the rest on a few overpriced journeymen?

...and how cute sweet would it be if bottom side Basingstoke now under ex Gate maestro terry brown, who beat Oxford 2-0 last time out, were to survive the drop at gates expense? Long shot I know but hey!

Yes our main source of money has pulled out & only covering the wages till the end of the season, so lets spend the 50k we just got for Ladapo on signing more journeymen. Sounds like a great idea

It's going to be a case of rats leaving a sinking ship come the end of the season even if they manage to stay up which is looking dodgy at the moment that 50k will soon go if they manage to keep only a few players on their existing contracts.

Hate Torquay fans BBB idiots, hope they get relegated here for next season.
I think Margate are taking the right steps in offloading players but the management, board and the running of the club is a bit of joke, massively tinpot. They're defiantly in the relegation fight.

Would not surprise me if Terry Brown turns around Basingstoke they were in the play offs last year and he's quality. Margate but a blip on a successful career

No regrets about Margate demise ... It was all there to see from the onset ... Glad we have some genuine and good people at Maidstone to steer our ship !! ... Oh well they will attract more people in that town ,but only at Dreamland ... Is it still open or has that as well gone bust ?!?. As their players will leave in mass at the end of the season ,it will be a reality check that their next employers won't be so generous in paying them inflated wages at this level. I was quite shocked to hear on Saturday someone mentioning how much our players get paid ...But it goes to prove that our guys do it for the love of their sport and if any of them do make it at the professional level, they will undoubtedly appreciate their time with our club !
