So not a world series at all then. Does it really matter? You could say the same for the Rugby League World Cup considering it's only really Yorkshire & Australia play it to any kind of standard.

Seem to recall the " World Series " tag had something to do with the newspapers who we around when these play-offs were established in the late nineteenth century. So the tag has a historical basis not a tag based on the facts of today.
