Do we have a solution to our batting woes?
Perhaps the South African who scored 2 runs in Division Two this week?

Yes a better bet than Bell who scored 12 & 1 in this match.

English international cricket and football are both in a parlous state, for different reasons. With cricket it's the headlong rush towards hit and rush slog fests that's ruined the game, with football it's the over reliance on foreign imports at the expense of English talent. At least with football there's the solace of non-league which seems to be growing more popular. For me, first class cricket lost its appeal years ago.

Disagree Dave, I don't think it's the over reliance on foreign imports, more the lack of English talent.
All the top countries have their players playing all over the place so they're not restricted to knowing just one style of play. Very few English players go abroad to play, because of the money on offer in this country for being nothing more than average.

to be able to restrict able to restrict to be able to restrict their toSame here. The best thing on the BBC at the weekend, apart from Dads Army, were the highlights of the 1953 'Matthews' Final which saw no fighting, on or off the field and a distinct lack of alcohol amongst the spectators. In those days people seemed to be able to restrict their drinking to pub licensing hours. As regards youngsters coming through the academies have a lot to answer for. Local football, both Saturdays and Sundays, is dying on its feet, and social media is taking over - what fun! The Blatter disease seems to have caused mayhem everywhere and even the FA have a lot to answer for. Money is the root of all evil!

To an extent you are right, but the willingness of the top English clubs to splash silly money on average foreigners restricts the chances of talented English players to flourish. Most English players now are languishing in Leagues 1 and 2, and never get the chance to learn or improve, because even The Championship has gone down the route of bringing in more foreign players.
