Haven't seen them yet to give an answer, but they are not going to be the pushover some think. How does the Welling business model work with such low attendances? Proximity to a huge pool of London based players, and not many other non league clubs to compete with for their services. Will be an interesting, and hopefully entertaining game.

Two divisions above this is a tough ask for us however. Confidence for them is low and the pressure to win on them is higher. We have high confidence and freedom to go out and enjoy it as the underdog we are not expected to win. If we get at them early and score first I fancy us to go on and win it

Never going to be easy but if we have to play them then this looks like a good time to do it!

Difficult to say how many would make our squad without having seen them. One thing you can say though, is that every keeper we've had since Jamie Turner has been as good as or better, so he's one who wouldn't get in our side.

This will be a very tough game ,two leagues apart ,they train more ,and are used to playing at a vastly superior level than ours.
Welling are struggling im not sure they will survive ,relegation is really what they need to avoid, but if they stay up its a relegation battle again next season,in other words they are not really good enough for the league they play in ,whilst were to good for ours.
We have players who are more than capable of playing at conference level, and im sure Jamie day would love to cherry pick our best players, but as a club Welling are not really a step up,its only league status that's a difference, and im sure we will pass them again in a season or three!.
Maidstone will win this one.
UP THE STONES!

I honestly think we have a slight edge at home - if it goes to a replay they will of course be big favourites.
We need our big players to have a big game on the day - the experience of a Steve Watt, Frannie Collin and of course Lee Worgan, or the youthful confidence and skill of an Alex Flisher, could definitely win the day for Stones. One thing is for sure - they won't truly be fancying their trip to the Gallagher, and yesterday's match will not have done anything to help their confidence.

To any Welling who may be reading,or a Stones fan who may have a log in on the Welling forum,i think its worth mentioning the "townend"
As we are expecting a couple of hundred plus away fans ,it will be very very packed in there. If Welling swap ends.
I know Welling are used to segregation at some grounds in the conference and changing ends at half time at some.
Most at our ground do not change ends.

Don't worry Welling there are proper non-league fans at Maidstone that swap ends at HT.
I saw Dover play Chester the other week and my real thought was that the two teams looked physically stronger and that the game was played at faster pace. Whether we can step up on those two points needs to be seen.

Today's Conference is very different from the Conference we played in at London Road. For a start it is half full of ex-League clubs, but also 25 years of promotion and relegation between the Conference and the FL has raised the game considerably. Most, if not all, of the old Conference clubs of the 90s would struggle to survive in today's Conference - in fact I think many of the Div 4 clubs of the 90s would struggle too.
This has filtered down through the pyramid, so that, for instance, the football I watch at the Gallagher these days is as good as, if not better, than what I used to watch in the Conference days at London Road. So, in 1980s terms, this game against Welling is much more like an old Conference side taking on a decent Div 4 side, or even one from Div 3.
For those of us who remember Welling as a minor club who didn't really belong in the Conference and who had a crap ground and hardly any fans, this is hard to believe! But this is effectively what we are taking on on Saturday.
Many of the new fans, so used to us winning this season, will be thinking all we have to do is step up our game and we can win this one. But were we back in the 80s a club two divisions above us would have been a Div 3 side (e.g. Gillingham) and a win would be a 'giant killing'. The best we'd be realistically hoping for would be to take them to a replay...

Wouldn't it be amazing to be playing a league team in the fa cup first round. It's going to be so so tough but with the crowd right behind the boys who knows COYS.....
Bristol City Sheff Utd Portsmouth or Gillingham Away would all be fantastic .
