Why does the economic debate in this country seem to be around poor people receiveing an almost negligible percentage of GDP. Meanwhile, government policy seems aimed at appeasing/helping rich and greedy people grab even more. It seems that political parties are powered by nothing more than their continued survival and pander to 0.001% of the population to the detriment of everyone else.
House Prices are too high because of manipulation by rich, powerful greedy banks. The knock on effects of this are that wages cannot sustain fairly simple housing and basic aid is needed for families with 2 people working. Fractional reserve banking is a deck of cards con trick and our whole financial system needs to change.
What have we done to address the problem of high housing prices and the boom to financial oblivion situation of 2007? Oh yes we've introduced the support to get people into houses they cannot really afford. What a great idea. House prices are going even higher. This only supports greedy banks and the Marxist theory that capitalism will continue to produce more and more and more of what we don't need with money flowing to wealth. The marxist belief is that this will all end in violent collapse. Why do we need to go to this?
Power is too expensive yet the government seems strangely coy of doing anything about it. Simple policies such as asking that all new builds have solar power would seem a good idea. I am also interested as to why the power providers can fix their prices in a cartel at seeming exponential rates while the price they pay for provision of solar power, from individuals, has been slashed by well over 50%.
While these powerful institutions grab more and more we see more and more people forced to go to food banks just to survive. The British Red Cross is going to distribute food in this country for the first time since the war.
What we need in this country is not a discussion built around how we can increase GDP because that will only aid the 0.001% to become richer and richer (note how prices etc are going higher and higher but wages are stagnant or falling). What we need is a discussion built around the distribution of wealth/GDP and how to make it fairer so everyone or a large majority of people at least can enjoy a reasonable lifestyle.
Let's stop pretending that there is no wealth in this country (because it is utter, utter rubbish). Let's stop pretending that 'we are all in this together. Let's stop pretending that cutting £20 off disabled people will make everything OK. Let's stop pretending that the reason there was a financial crisis was because the level of public services was too high. It was because greedy people played gambling and then refused to accept their own 'the market is king' mantra when they should have paid for it (notable that now the public purse has sorted out RBS the rich and greedy suddenly want it sold back to them).
We need to get back to a fair day's pay for a fair day's work and have a system where one wage can support a family so that one parent can bring children (i.e. the future generation) up to be well-rounded, feel wanted and en joy and achieve.
