The Co-op in Snodland is selling Newcastle Brown Ale 3X bottles @£5 I would have put this in the toonarmy section but we don't have one. I should point out I have invested £5 and left the Bishops Finger on the shelf

Tesco are busting a groove with the same deal. I think we should have toon section. All the bevy deals could go in that section.

Does the cheap Newky Broon come with a free toilet after you pebbledash yours to bits the next day?

Does Draught Bass still exist in any shape or form? Occasionally see bottled equivalent in Asda, but not on tap. Shame as it would match many of these fancy craft ales - or maybe that's just a fond memory?

Back in the 60s I rememember me & a mate drinking 5 bottles each in the last hour before closing time in the Students Union Bar. And I don't even like Newcastle Brown as it's too gassy. It was my mate's idea of a challenge; not one I ever repeated.

I know I saw it on tap and bought a pint in the bar on a P and O ferry from Calais to Dover ,but that was about 10 years ago now,so not sure if they do it still.

In my student days, back in the 70s, the Union bar sold Newkie pint bottles for 15p. Better still McEwan's Export was 14p a pint, so if your mates were serving then an almost full glass of McEwen's with a Newkie Brown on the side was 22p - not bad for nearly two pints. You could get rat arsed for well under a quid! These were the days before Camra became a force and Young's was the only real ale in south London - often a knife and fork job at the time anyway. The Rat Pit (public bar) at the Pied Bull in Streatham was the only place it was decent. Happy days!

Draught Bass does indeed still exist but is more likely to be found in Northern pubs and clubs than in the South, having said this I have noticed it in several pubs in London in recent years.

When I used to work nights, one of the guys on my shift often used to spend the evening in the pub, drinking McEwen's Export before coming to work. He was always fine, but no one would go up in the lift with him (we worked on the 10th floor). I made the mistake once and nearly died. Another occasion, I was walking up the stairs and as I reached the 5th floor, the lift doors opened and three of my fellow shift workers staggered out coughing. Evil stuff.
