I always used to go to Away games on a Maidstone and District coach - much more reliable for a day out at the seaside !! From the few tweets today it sounds like an interesting game. Did they bring their 1st team players out in the 2nd half to come back like that? How many Stones fans were there? What league would Calais be in relative to English football based on today's game do you think ? Was the game filmed MUTV ? Just asking from an Ocean Away!

On the coach home now after what seems like an eternity at dover port and calais. An entertaining game of footie at a ground wasted on the calais few....... but the day was let down on the understanding we as loyal supporters getting the official club coach would have time to spend in calais, even for a couple of hours to mill around and enjoy the day, maybe get a meal and a few drinks...... but no. Off the coach, in the ground and then straight out again. Im sure i speak for many that are on this coach. We did have a good day apart from the the late ferry over and all the waiting we had to do. Leaving at 11am when we ended up getting the 1.55 ferry instead of 12.55 was a bit of a shambles. Hopefully next time allowances will be catered for at least you got a place on the coach. also I think someone posted on a thread somewhere that it was the busiest weekend of the year for ferries to frogville.

Should have gone as foot passengers... Left Maidstone at 12 noon, booked onto the 2.45 sailing. Arrived at Dover at 1pm, checked in and were immediately offered the 1.55pm sailing which we obviously accepted. A few cheeky beers on the ferry, blagged our way onto the team coach from the docks to the ground. Enjoyed a brilliant game of football before getting a lift back to to the port after the game (again on the team coach) Checked in at the port and were again offered an earlier sailing. Pleasant crossing watching the lightning storms across the Channel before docking at Dover, jumping into the car and home in bed before 11pm.

However, where did the understanding that we'd have time to spend in Calais come from? It would have been nice but the club just said they would provide transport to and from the game. Seemed strange though that the bus driver knew all along we were on the 1:55 People like I.S missed out on coming - I wish he was able to replace a minority out there who didn't seem to want to be there.

On the subject of the game I thought we were once again very good. Scored some cracking goals, Flish's one we cut an otherwise pretty useful defence wide open. And the other 3 Calais simply couldn't deal with our set pieces and the ball coming into the box. Frannies finish was pure class and I think in all Calais simply couldn't cope with us. Then just as we started bringing on our academy boys, Calais started bringing on their "big guns"
Worgs made a mistake for their first goal, we went to sleep for their second, their third was unstoppable, and their 4th was all round good play when we were tiring.
Thought all our boys played well,Fabio looks the business, Frannie seemed to be scaring the life out if their centre backs.
We do need another striker though, and that is becoming more and more obvious, Draycott is a good player but not as a lone frontman

Great day out, shame about the lowlife contingent. Hopefully we'll never see them again. Got home at 140 with a bootful of beer, wine, cider, biscuits, chocolate and so on. Great idea, hope it does turn out to be an annual exchange.

My good lady wife was asking whether there would be a return fixture at the Gallagher next year. Somehow it wouldn't be the same, would it, what with five Calais supporters arriving, and asking directions to the nearest Maidstone hypermarket. It was the adventure of our massed ranks travelling abroad that made the day so exciting. As did Worgan's performance in goal, sublime to ridiculous or what? I hope he's got that Pat Mullin moment out of his system now.

Whilst it was disappointing that we didn't get to see the wonders of Calais and I was probably complaining the most, in hindsight it was probably the right decision, considering some of the cheeky chappies who travelled over on the unofficial coaches, I wouldn't have wanted to have been associated with them, it was bad enough that they were allowed into the ground and spent the majority of the time throwing fire crackers and singing about how crap Calais was and they wanted to go home, the rest of the true supporters at the game were also wishing that they would go home, I was embarrassed along with a number of other true supporters on the ferry back and wished I didn't have my shirt on, some of the antics of these so called fans was appalling and cringe worthy, spent most of the trip back at the rear of the boat with the sensible contingent whilst the likely lads at the front of the boat put on a fine performance of what a typical stereotypical football yob is all about, enjoyed the journey out, enjoyed the football but a small minority soured the day for me, I don't think I would do it again

I am sure most genuine Stones fans would have put their hands in their pockets to answer the undesirables request to go home by promptly paying a taxi (well meat wagon) back to the port the moment they arrived.
They were nothing to do with Maidstone United and hopefully never will be

All in all, I really enjoyed yesterday, and as you say Toonarmy, it is just a shame it was slightly spoilt by a few people! Although my sat nav has let me down, I am glad that my 18 year old bottle opener I bought for 10p back in 1995, proved its worth when we needed bottles to be opened in Dover!

Very disappointing day out, yes i really enjoyed the game and ground but i expected far more than a lift to and from the game. At leaving Maidstone at eleven, i thought the twelve thirty ferry, in France for two so we could have a couple of hours in the town before making our way to the ground. But sadly not, the powers that be decided that we would only be allowed to spend a couple of hours at Dover docks because who ever made the booking knew the sailing was after two, And after the game there was not even time for a drink but enough time to sit on a baking hot coach for well over a hour. My only guess is the club were embarrassed by its own loyal fans having too much to drink and causing problem for the name of the club, as there were other coaches going any way, they should have know better. This is the main reason why the supporters club should always be independent of the club and run by the fans for what the fans want and not what the club wants. I thought it was a little strange that club formed the fan club months after the IMUSC was formed after yesterday in my view this was to take back control .

Damned if they do damned if they don't again. From what I could see everyone that wanted too enjoyed having a few beers no matter where they had them. This "mix up" of times was annoying but get over it. I don't think anyone at the club had any intention of keeping people out of town. As for the journey home it's a shame that it was also a very small minority from the club organised coach that decided to join in with the fun the idiots were having. I was just a tad fuming on the coach back from Dover and had to sit on my hands to stop me from doing something stupid.

what exactly happened on the boat on the way back? As I said I was in the restaurant and did not see/hear anything going on. I dozed off for most of the journey back to Maidstone, as did a lot of other people

I think maybe the problem with not getting time to spend in Calais stems from the fact that initially the game was a 7pm kick off?
Unfortunately, the Neanderthals at the game (and those on the coach wh decided to join them) were an embarrassment and unfortunately the French stewards seemed unable or unwilling to stop them throwing firecrackers or standing in a completely seated ground. We also observed 2 of them giving Nazi salutes to each other as a greeting, which instantly identified them to me, as if the "red hand" and RAF flag hadn't been enough. Presumably the EDL had no marches happening anywhere yesterday?
On the coach, it seemed that no one who wanted to have a drink (and many had a lot) went without, and there was plenty available at the ground and on the ferry.
All in all, a good day, sadly spoiled by a few. Many thanks to Oxford Stone for his efforts in counting and rounding up on the coach (p.s. sorry again for relegating you in 2006) and to the many Stones fans for making Ian and I so welcome.
