Hi all, Delighted to announce the new issue of the Scarborough Athletic fanzine 'Abandon Chip!' has a significant feature on Maidstone United, thanks to two in-depth interviews offered up on here. If you'd like a copy, I've put some on Ebay: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261161050105Thanks again for getting involved - and good luck for the rest of the season, and apologies for the blatant advert!

Begs the question....
....if there was a new fanzine what would it be called?
"Show Me the Way To Stay Home"?
"Rolling Stone"?
"Get Stoned"?
"In off the post"?
"The Gallagher Gazette"?

No-one will top what Brian achieved. Perhaps someone should have a quiet word in his ear?

Seriously, would a print based Fanzine really work in this day & age ? ( I guess it just might do with hungry consumers at the Gallagher ).
Surely web / blogging is the way to go.............

Actually, you need to get to the Gallacher early these days to get a nice sport for viewing so maybe it would work. Its a great way of bringing new fans into the Stones history.
If you sold 150 per print run then sure it would work..........
One effort per month is fine........
The key is to sell out your print run. I guess that what really p****d off Bryan was to print so many & then to have no takers for them at Ashford. Excess printing = loss ( a LOSS as Lord Sugar would say ).
You need to get a balance between content - editorial, history, fun, downright smutt, cartoons etc. Bryan did that brilliantly. He is the boss & the king............
So islandstone, you got a spare 14 hours per month.......

Firstly, thanks for all the kind comments and for your purchases!
With regards to fanzines in this day and age, I truly believe there's still a place for them. The internet has played a big part in the downfall of many, but much like books and e-books, people still like to have something physical which they can buy at matches and read on the way home, on the toilet, in bed etc.
As far as producing it goes - Issue 19 took me around 20-25 hours to produce. I'm a full time PhD student, so thankfully my time is my own. If you've got a full time job though, it'd be arduous work and would take a week full of evenings to get it done.
I do enjoy it - which is why I do it - and it's a labour of love more than anything. I sell around 80-90 on an average gate of 400 or so. 25% of our fans buy one, which is very good for a fanzine. I never make a huge profit. In fact, it's usually a case of break even for me, but as I said - it's all about the enjoyment.
Once we get back to Scarborough, and our gates go up to 1,500 or so, then there'll be the chance to raise some money for the club.
With your gates, you could easily sell enough to make some money for the club. It's all about time though. Who can step forward and take charge?
