I've only started watching MUFC this year.
I've been to all the home games, apart from 3 (work commitments / holiday) and over half the away games. I've not noticed any issues. Yes, you do get the die hard fans sticking together, but of course they're going to do this, as they have known each other for several years. I'd find it very odd if they didn't stand together.
The more away games I go to, the more faces I recognise and I get the the odd "nod and wink" from people, as well as speaking to some. So, I've not noticed any resentment from anyone, just a welcoming approach.
The "Halifax" chant still appears, however I believe it is more in jest now, rather than trying to antagonise anyone.
If people do still have issues, do what I did and stand near the die hards, join in the singing and you'll have a great match day experience.

The "Halifax" chant still appears, however I believe it is more in jest now, rather than trying to antagonise anyone. It was always in jest, and was aimed mainly at binsey, after his gloating that we travelled all that way only to see a loss (despite the fact that it was his team that lost too). People have always made fun of each other for missing big games, such as Spider90 missing the coach to Halesowen a few years ago (sorry mate: never going to miss an opportunity to mention that one ;D), or trolley missing Newport IOW (that one was before my time but I've heard about it enough). As samb would say, it's just a bit of banter. Well, either that or balls! ;D

Oh yeah, banter as said. So that's why I posted given some of the comments where people are saying there's a them and us in terms of old/new fans. Not noticed it myself.

or trolley missing Newport IOW (that one was before my time but I've heard about it enough). The best one was Biggles who made the coach to Newport IoW, he even got inside the ground but then had an attack of the DeliBelly and spent all game sitting in the toilet block and missed everything! Now that was funny ;D When I say missed everything - I meant Stones superb win, not the toilet bowl!

As Tim said in an earlier posting JT did deliver some fantastic times, BUT his manner did get up the noses of local politicians at the time. I recall Fred Winklass and Pat Marshall knocking on my door at local election time and discussing Woodcut Farm with them. I was told they had their orders from Mr Thompson, which clearly irritated them and they would being doing the complete opposite. Never mind the fact that Woodcut Farm would have been a great benefit to the people of Maidstone. Talking big clearly never works, something PBB clearly didnt learn from either. Thankfully we now have Terry, Bill and Oliver who know how to engage with people and have delivered. As for new and old fans, I think this will naturally sort itself out over time. Personally im chuffed to bits theres so many new faces about. People will get to know each other, friendships will be developed and our support will not only be large but more solid over the coming seasons.

Football club chairmen are notorious. If the worst that our present directors are guilty of is failing to by a cover for the pitch, then I say amen.

Strange as it sounds I'm glad we now have a strong non-league outfit in the town centre instead of a struggling lower league club in a soulless bowl by a motorway junction. But that's probably just me. I always thought Woodcut Farm was pie in the sky. Onwards and upwards.

Could not agree more . At Woodcut farm we could easily gone the same way as Rushden and Diamonds out of town away from our fan base . Give me a strong non league club in the town any time

Jim Thompson did a lot in getting Maidstone United up to being one of the top Non-League clubs in the country. Unfortunately, he took too many risks in thinking that he could gamble by selling our ground (and using the money to get our team into the football league) and hoping that everything else would fall in place. If he had pulled it off he would have been the greatest thing since sliced bread. He didn't so people became angry with him.
As for the old v new fans debate. If the new fans are worried that we are not mixing well enough I will come and stand with them for a couple of matches. ;D

Bring on the end of the snow so we can go back to talking about the football.
For what it's worth, having watched the Stones on and off since I saw a pre-season friendly with QPR in 1977 (?) we are ALL STONES fans - who cares whether someone is new or old.
And JT was an important part of the club for a long time, so if someone wants to discuss him, let him !

Give me a strong non league club in the town any time good point, but how are we going to extend the Gallagher to meet premiership and champions league minimum criteria.....I'm not sure the council will allow us to build over the river, and of course we need to keep an eye on the bloody newts......so our place is big enough for a while.....but if i win a huge euro millions jackpot we will be looking for something a tadge larger...
