Found Heathside's (excellent) video catalogue on you tube.
Quite a few videos on the failed application at Hollingbourne, and subsequent demise of the club. Being 8 or 9 at the time my memory isn't the best. What are the informed opinions of this time on reflection? Where did the club go wrong? Was this site the "best" option at the time? What else could've been done?
Jim as a person seemed quite decisive amongst the supporters - love/hate feelings? Again what is the informed option on reflection.

Who cares? It's all in the past, what's done is done, no point in racking up feelings from twenty-odd years ago.

Sorry, didn't realise I had to run everything passed you! Genuine interest in the past, plus know people with varying opinions, hence why I asked the question. Know people that wouldn't have an interest, or invested in the club recently if it wasn't for their friendship with Jim so it does have a significant bearing on the future!

you're only welcome on these forums if you have watched maidstone at least 5 different home grounds and are fully clued up on the history. otherwise, you are just a plastic supporter and not welcome in their clique

being a supporter of maidstone for only 5-6 years im forever looking at the history of the club. all that has happened before is important, the whole ground thing from losing the athletic ground to present time. its moulded many older (and younger) fans and driven them to raise money to help in any way possible. theres a fair bit on you tube. you should know your history, new or veteran.

The subject of Jim Thompson is best left in the pass . Those that were there have strong opinions on what happened then and much bitterness still exists amongst many supporters

Well all I can say say is that I miss the London Rd ground, lots of happy memories from there during my teens of matches watched from the Shed (even worked there for awhile helping out the goundsman one day a week and match days in 1985) ... was very sorry to see it go and although the new place is nice & new it's not a patch on the old Stadium

Ragstone - not sure what your problem is. Islandstone - appreciate your point, but how are 'new' people suppose to learn about The past if they can't ask questions?
Just wondered what a balanced point of view is after 20-25 years that's all. Is it forum lore that this subject can never be mentioned?

its what this forum is all about isnt it? i agree with you mr barmingstone, no ask no learn. for some the history hurts to mention it, which totally understandable. i didnt go through those motions. anyone who is interested enough will have a look at the various footage.

People should be allowed to freely post their opinion as long as I agree with it.

Moving this on then. Think the new v old supporters thing is the one negative to come out of this season.
In reality there is probably 400-500 old (as they call themselves die hards) against 1200+ "new" supporters! If this carries on the only one group will be left behind as the club moves forward.
At the end of the day we're all better off United!! Well done to the old fans, but lose the chip and look forward.
For the record, I went to London Rd (both versions) wattling st and sittingbourne but as I stated in my opening post I was 8-11 years old at the time.

It's a fair question Barming Stone, but it's a bit like asking Ned Beatty about Deliverance.
