Hi everyone, with the new season fast approaching now seems a good time to mention that the Prediction League will be running again this season, but before we get to that, here are some stats from last season.
As we all know daveu was the victor (is nws out of therapy yet?) by three points from Clydestone with garstone coming in four points further behind, but in addition to that I kept a tally of who did best in the score/result/attendance. Perhaps re-igniting the controversy around attendance guesses, Bernie prevailed in the attendance section, but in a dire run of form towards the end of the season almost succumbed to royalstone coming up on the rails.
As usual no appeals from anyone without a vowel in their username...
And so to this season's fun competition (that means there's no prizes)...
Rules:
You can join anytime, but you must make your prediction in advance of kick off, I will ignore any predictions (or edits) made after a time when it appears beyond or close to kick off time. Points are awarded as follows:
1 pt just for posting a prediction
2 pts for getting the correct outcome (W/L/D)
5 pts for getting the correct score
2 pts for the closest attendance prediction, but 5pts if predicted exactly.
Predictions are welcome, please keep them to this thread - I might not see them elsewhere, and if you change your mind at any point, put a new post in by quoting your original one - I record them as they are posted and I might miss an edit. Good luck everyone!
Just to clarify for everyone - new and old to this - this only covers NLS games (and the play-offs if we get there). Feel free to predict cup games if you like, but they won't count for the table.
If you are posting a prediction within two hours of kick off, please also post the actual time of your prediction. When I come to include late predictions after the game, the time of posting is not always displayed accurately by the software and we don't want any arguments about Bernie posting late because there was a queue at the turnstile he was counting at

Updated following the Eastbourne game.
Like buses, you wait and wait for a home win then three turn up in quick succession and in that caught out almost a third of predictors who would almost certainly have backed a home win last season.
daveu was the only person to predict the 3-1 scoreline and rises half a dozen places in the table. Seventeen others kept the faith and picked up a brace for the home win. I wonder how many of the six who predicted 2-1 were cursing as our third crossed the line. nws strengthened his grip on mid-table by being just two out on the official attendance and a mention too for SidelineSid who was just two more off.
Next up is the return fixture from our opening game against St Albans where we won by a single goal. I note that the referee was D. England. Could this be ex PL ref Darren England who seems to have dropped off the radar in terms of major leagues? If it is, I hope he eventually finds his true level, which I suspect is school football along with Dave Hockaday who somehow talked himself into the manager's job at Leeds. His only previous job was at Forest Green Rovers and he is now head of football at a college in South Gloucestershire. Bitter? Moi?
St. Albans next and then a quick turn around for Aveley away on Monday evening - I'm sure the M25 will be fine... Those of you who made predictions for the original fixture they are still saved, but if you want to change you may of course do so. I might get the table updated in between, but we'll have to see.
