Hope you are on the mend quickly, RS Thanks kind Sir! This is my fourth stay here in just under four and a half years, due to complications caused by the broken metal I've had in my foot since the original bodged operation in December 2018! This time they removed all the remaining metal from my foot, flushed out the bad infection and pumped it with antibiotic cement, so fingers crossed, this is hopefully the last operation, I have only managed to get to two games in 2024 due to this ongoing nightmare with my plates Finger crossed this time around! Sounds awful. Infection is a real risk.

I don't even need to click that link to guess what it is. Great track by Renaissance(?) Decent showing on Friday night of the lights up here. Perversely I was actually looking slightly southwards for the centre of the event - about 80 degrees above the southern horizon but stretching east to west to each horizon. Unfortunately Mrs YS who has a much better camera on her phone was abroad at the time, so no decent pics to share sadly.

I take it that Mrs YS isn’t from Yorkshire herself? Otherwise she’d have no reason to go abroad….

I've clocked you mentioning it every so often and I thought it was your second or third time in, not fourth. Well, fingers crossed for you Thanks very much, now it's all out, it will be funny not having to explain to airport security staff why my foot is not settling the metal detector anymore! Last time was in Vienna airport, when he the bloke spoke very little English, I couldn't remember how to say " I have metal in my foot" in German, so took off my sock, pointed and managed to say in mixed accent German dialect " my foot is ill"!!!

Yes ,it's happened a few times before, normally something as trivial as a blister breaks and because of being near the offending metal, causes the whole area to get infected in very little time

I think the problem was there was so little muscle between the plate and the skin that there was constant friction causing abscesses which became infected. Fortunately for him the break had healed well enough to no longer need the support. Hope they can find a solution for you.

I have a titanium 'bone' and shoulder joint in my left arm, following an op for bone cancer, so I have fun at airports too! The daft thing is that, as soon as I 'fail' the metal detector, I am instructed to stand in the rotating detector and raise my arms - which I can't do! But, weirdly, on my last flight, the detector failed to pick up my artificial bone, but instead saw something in my left foot. I had to remove both shoe and sock, and then lift my leg so they could scan underneath my foot! Needless to say, they didn't find anything.

If the surgeon who did the original operation had of used stronger pins in the first place, they would not have broken. They have injected the foot with an antibiotic cement which hardens,so like an alternative to metal, so hopefully I'll be back in action soon...
