Can't blame him for that. So he's got other interests too, not exactly a crime. Just at the moment Alexis does look the best bet. The point Im getting at is going by his social media hes not focused on Football at the moment, surely if he was he would be back in pre season training somewhere on trial or already signed. He left Woking before the season ended to do a TV show for 2 months, that's fair enough if he wants to do that, but surely we want someone who is fully focused on football and won't potentially disappear to do another TV show. Also, he would be a massive drop in quality from Covolan. Any keeper at this level would be a drop in quality from Covolan but if he was focussed on football he surely would have signed for someone by now. It does no good dwelling on a keeper who obviously didn’t want to sign for us, and even if he has a change of heart would it really be a good idea to have him back. If we have signed/are on the verge of signing a keeper then we should trust George to know what he’s doing. |

I do trust him but it's still a worry ! Especially as George admitted at the welcome evening he had gambled on keeping Covolan and lost! I’m sure he will get someone but no idea what quality they will be or if they will only be a stopgap until someone better emerges! Is Chris Lewington free? |

I must admit that I find this trialist malarkey a bit strange. Good NLS players have been signed up already. May seem harsh but are we now looking at the flotsam to top up our squad ? I think quite often managers, especially managers like George, want a closer look at players beyond just their playing ability. George strikes me as someone who is huge on mentality and cohesion in a dressing room so seeing how these players interact within the squad is massive. On the other hand as well, these things work both ways I'm sure. Players probably want to get a feel for a place and a manager before committing. Don't forget, you are contracted for a year most likely and if it isn't right for you it must end up being a very long season. Lastly as well, I imagine we have X amount of budget to commit to targets we know we want, and Y probably has to end up being placed on possible gambles and journeymen to pad out the squad. A complete guess but I assume we don't have the luxury of just going out and signing who we want - our first acquisitions were some of the best players in the NS and for their teams (Eweka, Brookes, Higgs, Seaman, Fonkeu and Blair all very highly thought of) so I guess we now have to be far more careful with who we bring in having had that initial signing flurry? |

My goodness we were indeed, desperate.............and no, Swordy I doubt if he would accept such a clause if he has an eye on becoming a TV Z-Lister, and he would also know how desperate we are for a keeper to avoid himself being "tied down" and miss his big break for celebrity. At least we have a keeper now but this signing is kind of worrying and I hope George has a plan B keeper somewhere if this guy implodes or disappears to TV land before Christmas. On the positive side, Covolan was a bit of a wild cannon too yet George got the very best out of him, so as always, in George we trust. |
