[b Look back. No one was glad we didn’t sign Luque. Some of us understood it So you guys wont understand the latest signing then ? Maybe we’ll reserve judgment until he plays unlike the miserable idiots who have written him off before kicking a ball.

But Luque was written off before a ball was kicked. Thats the point.

Would be fun to search what this forum said about Luque before he kicked a ball for us.

But Luque was written off before a ball was kicked. Thats the point. Luque was our joint top earner with Booty. I don’t think it was em just his injury record that led to us not offering him a deal. I think we wanted to cut our cloth.

I spent some time last night trying to find out more about the Canadian Premier and the general situation with football in Canada (warning - you need to use 'soccer' for searches, they can't even get the name right!).
Unfortunately, I found very little out, so I am none the wiser as to the standard of the football over there. But I would guess it's not brilliant.
The Premier League is only a few years old, previous to its creation, Canadian clubs played in US leagues. It only has about 10 member clubs, spread right across the bottom of Canada - so travel costs must be an issue. Instead of a straightforward 'traditional' league system, they have a play-off competition tacked on to the end of the season to decide the champions. There's no promotion (for obvious reasons!) and there appears to be no formal relegation and promotion with other leagues.
York United (or York9, as they are possibly now known?) are not one of the top clubs, and (as far as I know) have never made the playoffs. They are a 'regional' Toronto club, and, having visited Toronto, this does not fill me with positivity... Most of their recent renaming and rebranding seems to have been with the aim of making them seem less regional and more 'city', presumably to attract bigger gates.
To be honest, it all sounds more like a PR, profit making scheme to me. Most of the information I did find was about who owns who, or who is taking them over, brand names and changes, etc. Almost nothing about football. I couldn't find anything about attendances, but, from the few pictures, I'd guess most games don't have huge gates, although some of the bigger clubs might attract big crowds for playoff/title games.
In the few days I spent in Toronto this summer, I never heard football/soccer mentioned once, nor saw any publicity for football games or clubs. Ice hockey appears to be the big thing out there.
The teams themselves seem to be mostly Canadian players, with the odd foreigner here and there.
Overall, I wasn't exactly impressed, but it was a very brief survey, so most of the above may well be bollocks.
Whether any of this is relevant to our new player is anyone's guess. If he's an average Canadian player, he might not be about to impress, but maybe he's got potential, but just got born in the wrong country, and a spell with us will give him the chance he needs?
Bone's turned out OK, so maybe this guy will too. Although, after my in-depth research, I'm inclined to rate Irish football quite a bit higher than Canadian!

So does this mean George was right or wrong to sign the player ?

We all know that the only reason Luque wasn't given a new contract was because of serious doubts about his fitness. The club had just paid his wages for a season without seeing a ball kicked. If Luque realy does the business throughout this season, then great for himself and Worthing. Then somebody can say with justification that the club was over cautious or something. But to make that claim now when we are in the first week in September, well that's just sounds nuts. So far he has managed 2 goals and nil assists in 7 matches. Fair enough but not sensational. In the meantime I wish the Spanish Wizard all the best and hope he has a terrific season.

So does this mean George was right or wrong to sign the player ? I am sure George believes he will enhance the squad, or there is little point a season long loan.

I think its more to do with him only being a sub for most of the games, and he's scored more than De Graft, Sole, Reynolds, Aransibia, Obi , Kelly and Corne. And all those players probably have more game time than Luque.

Perhaps, but what does it say if he's not getting selected to start a match ? Btw one of his two goals this season was a penalty. Alongside his modest scoring record he has achieved zero assists. Much too early to claim anything about how the season will pan out for Luque. Maybe he will do well but who knows for sure. Just seems way OTT to keep banging on about something thats been and gone.

Clever sod, though. He managed a whole season in the NL without actually ever playing.
