I wonder what the cost is per season of maintaining a pro grade grass football pitch, also if we do go over to grass the Deso system with the reinforced plastic fibres would be good if not too costly as it can sustain more activity than a traditional grass pitch and perhaps enable the community element to not be completely curtailed. Not sure about the ongoing maintenance. I assume the increased income would more than cover it. The big obstacle is the initial outlay. Replacing our carpet costs about 150k. I believe it cost Sutton half a million to switch to grass.

Most top clubs re-lay their grass pitch every season or couple of seasons. It is grown off-site and brought in and laid. It is how Prem sides keep their 'carpet pitches' Jon Crowther made the very good point on the podcast that, in some ways, things get easier when you reach L2.. the NL is the financial league from hell, as Oliver said.

I think it's going to be a while before we are troubling the promotion places, so I'd be looking more at increasing the capacity of the ground in order to bring in more money through full use of the 3G pitch, then once the stand infrastructure is in place, look to develop a 3G training pitch away from JWW.
Look at the PL/Championship clubs, very few (if any) train near their stadium let alone actually on the pitch. I've been away from town too long so I don't know whether there are some open spaces big enough for a training facility in the district - perhaps the denizens of Hollingbourne would be a bit more open to some community sports facilities on their doorstep rather than the hooligan infested nightmare that was bandied around to mobilise objections when we first moved away from London Road.
A community orientated sports facility would probably be able to secure funding from various sources including the FA and Sport England.

Could we train at K Sports in Aylesford? Is it my imagination but didn't Dover use to train there?

What ever happened to the pitch owned by the mormons next to the old Athletic Ground where Maidstone Invicta played? Why not put the 3G there for the community and training. Even move the town end stand there when it is redeveloped? Just a thought....

A site like the one behind the Mormons will go for housing. The whole K Sports site was up for sale recently. Don’t know what happened, but they haven’t changed their ridiculous name yet.

Do they still own it? If so are they community spirited? (I will set up the Mormon/alcohol jokes for others to finish)

I know when they have the mobile blood doning unit there, they're not allowed to serve drinks that contain caffeine. Seems pretty intolerant to me.

If memory serves the Mormons were glad for football to leave. They weren't and probably still aren't interested in renewing the lease.
I think there was also an issue with floodlighting the area so not an ideal choice for a site of a 3g training g facility that could be hired out.
To purchase the land would be way too expensive unless we get taken over by a billionaire I'd rather have any spare funds upgrading the team and the facilties already have

OK, today's suggestion, albeit a part of town I do not know too well is in Invicta Park between Sandling Lane and Chatham Road, behind the old barracks on 'Grapple Road'. You can even see the outline of a football pitch on the North side of the road if you zoom in.

You can even see the outline of a football pitch on the North side of the road if you zoom in. According to the MoD report about site disposal, Invicta Park has space for 1300 houses. The site was originally scheduled for disposal in 2027, but has now slipped to 2029. www.gov.uk/government/publications/disposal-database-house-of-commons-report

My first game at the reformed club was at the Mormon's ground. A mate told me that the fans were on notice that any more swearing would mean the club would need to find a new ground the next season. After the ref's first controversial decision I knew the club would soon be looking for a new home.
The pitch is now overgrown with metre high weeds and a couple of small size moveable goals randomly distributed, paying homage to the past perhaps.
