Started well, but I thought he hasn't looked the same recently (although I've seen so few games, I might just have been unlucky to see off-key performances).
I understand the financial realities, of course, but it's still a bit depressing that Gloucester can pay him so much more than us.

f**k him! I hope he breaks his f**king leg first game out the greedy shitbag. Gloucester f**king City ,what a career move, he'll be the richest f**king player in the Southern prem next year. Any respect I had for this wanker has just been flushed down the f**king toilet.

I think we all assumed that the recent round of players leaving would free up some budget to get a few quality players in. To then read in the KM article that we are still over budget is quite an eye opener.
A little over 18 months ago we were all buzzing by the expected increase in playing budget and giving the NL a real good go. Now we are losing players to teams like Gloucester. Worrying times indeed.
A few years in NLS until these new investors come on board seem to be the direction for now.
As for McClure, really decent striker who hit the ground running. Faded a little the last month or so but still a class player that always had goals in him. Good luck Matt.

This time last year TC famously said we’d have a top budget for the league bigger than most...then it rescinded to a mid table effort...now we’ve released players and still over? Jesus wept!

Player with a quality touch. A shame. Did seem a bit staid recently though.

I'm always sad to lose players, whether they have fulfilled their potential or not. If another company offered me higher wages, I'd consider it, particularly if I was young. Best of luck to any who have left, or will go soon. It's just the nature of football.

Matt is like 99% of players, he loves the club and fans when they cheer his goals, but has no real love for the club. That is just the reality of football. As far as budget goes our owners clearly pumped more money than they were able to expecting to succeed in the national league with our business plan, that as we know didn’t work and at the time I think Casey was telling the truth about this year’s budget, however there has obviously been a long meeting where reality has set in! The business plan and set up isn’t suddenly going to work and become profitable enough. 3G has stalled completely and the talk of new investors is the Biggest indicator of the money situation. Also new stand talk has one quiet. If we make the playoffs and are lucky enough to go up again there is no reason we can’t stay up like we did the first year, however it would take some epic level management and luck with a low budget.

Guess we'll have to watch and wait as to how the rest of the season pans out and should we maintain a mostly fit squad, then the play offs are still within reach. However, McClure moving on is perhaps an early sign to expect a squad of part timers next season. Doesn't mean we can't mount another promotion challenge, because we did it with part timers last time. What it does do is underline the fact that without extra financial backing, Maidstone United has pretty much found its level as a well supported NLS club that can enjoy a cup run and flirt with promotion, but is not going to mount another charge up the leagues anytime soon. Nothing to be ashamed of, it's football.

If were over budget, our budget must be pretty low, when you look at the level we bought some players in from, that cant be on big wages, like leatherhead, three bridges, etc, looks like the owners have really tightened up what we are paying

So disappointing that we are unable to keep somebody of Matts quality and a proven goal scorer at that. There is no doubt that the owners took the axe to our wages bill and the club has suffered the consequences. It seem we can't come close to matching the finances of clubs like Gloucester City. Still we are over budget even now. Not a good day for the club at all. Depressing news.

A squad of 18 would therefore cost the club £7200 per week . As every other game is away that works out at £14,400per fortnight and last nights attendance of 1200 will not have been enough to pay the wages let alone all the running costs of the club. This is juston £400per week per player but I bet some are on more than that still not bad money for kicking a little ball about ,beats working for a living. PS. I forgot the management and coaches so if you add their wages into the equation you can see why we are struggling financially.

I hope the river Severn rises up and drowns him, God I hate greedy bastards! I think you’re being very unfair. I’ve no doubt McClure is being paid a lot less here than when he was in the FL. It’s his career, his living, he doesn’t have some sort of moral obligation to stay with us. It’s easy for us as fans to accuse players of greed but we all love a pay rise, don’t we? He’s going, let’s get over it, we’ve got a number of good forwards so maybe John and Hakan will redistribute his wage and get in a quality midfielder or defender.
