Paul Scally has been talking about investors for decades. I'll believe it when I see it. There is a business community in Maidstone who get involved with us and K Sports. If there are any eccentric millionaires wanting to have some fun, let's hope they come forward. yeah but Paul Scally is medway answer to David Folb both being total and utter WANKERS!!

Maidstone borough council has just spent £19million pounds of your money buying Lockmeadow, just one fifth of that would have finished our COMMUNITY ground.

Anyone remember TV series Big Deal, following the adventures of a small time London gambler? In one episode he won or was given a non league football club and discovers its debts. By the end he manages to pass it onto someone else. Couldn't find that episode, but did find this non league gem. youtu.be/ncfhzxRrAZg

MBC have worked out what will fill their personal coffers more over the years to benefit them directly rather than any actual benefit to the generating the community. The way the council operate is shocking to the point I actually resigned last week without another job to go to because I couldn’t stomach their approach and some of the things I saw.

But will it fill the coffers? 19 million is a huge capital investment and the site will only be worth anywhere near that as long as there are plenty of tenants who want to be there. As far as I can see, the three key tenants are the cinema, the bowling alley and the trampoline place (Gravity). If one or two of those tenants left, the place would be in trouble. It is a huge gamble with public money. They'd have had better chances of making money on the stock exchange.

To be honest I would rather see the Council in control of the lease as it will directly decide how the site is developed and who gets to operate in the vicinty instead of leaving it solely to random market forces and profitability. Moan all you like but elected local councillors are better placed to serve local community interests than a remote investor whose interests begin and end with ££££££££. Time will tell whether it's a worthwhile investment, but it's not all about profit.

Wouldn't be suprised to see some flats go up around the cinema and then auctioned off to the highest bidding London council!

Who said anything about investing as Sir Bob Geldof once said "just give us your f**king money"

No, he just wants the council to spend money on something that benefits a few thousand rather than something they hope and believe will benefit the whole community. Of course, he also wants their money with no strings attached.

Maidstone borough council has just spent £19million pounds of your money buying Lockmeadow, just one fifth of that would have finished our COMMUNITY ground. So you think we can deliver a 7,85% annual return to MBC! No. But there again neither does 'investing' £19m on Lockmeadow.
One suspects that the tenants might expect some sort of service from the landlord for their collective 'just over' £1.5m pa rent. Some of which will also have to fund the borrowing that the Council have done to finance their 'investment'.
Us old people will remember that this complex was built on Council owned land. Did it retain the freehold and have now just bought out the leaseholder? If they didn't own the freehold then presumably the Council was paying 'rent' for operating the car parks at the complex which will be a financial saving under their ownership?
The 'investment' was undoubtedly complex and may well be a wise financial move. Unfortunately Maidstone Borough's track record isn't exactly littered with projects where the phrase "wise financial move" readily springs to mind.
