So, we have played our first eight games, winning three, losing three and two draws. After losing our first two matches, that represents a decent return since then. Of the nine teams above us, we have thus far only played three, losing to Weymouth and Wealdstone and beating Concord. The side are starting to gel, but clearly not the finished article yet, especially considering JS and HH have yet to be able to play their preferred first XI, due to injuries. Overall then, could be a lot worse?

I have gone on record as saying if we can be midtable at Xmas then this squad will fly high in the new year.

We met our (current) match today, that was all. Perhaps, on a different day, with different players available, or without that early 'accidental' goal, the result might have been different. But, with this new team, still learning how to play with each other (fnar, fnar, etc), losing was probably not a bad thing. It gave therm (and us) a little dose of reality before we all got completely carried away. I think (as per Sword) that we have the makings of a good side - play-offs at least - but we aren't there just yet, and we certainly haven't got the consistency and quality of teams like Wealdstone. But the signs are there that there's much better to come - the really important Wealdstone game will be the return fixture.
I've always thought that the end of August 'target' was a bit too soon, we need at least another month or so to settle and gell properly. Then we'll see what the new Stones are capable of.

August was a measure to see how we shaped up and give an indication of how the season may go, not a deadline.
As such I think it’s delivered. Slow start, getting better, mid table to play offs with some exciting days and some frustrating days.

The three games we've lost (so far) were to teams with the same initial letter.
I have a vague recollection from a few years ago we had trouble getting a result from teams starting with a "W".

If we only lose eight games this season, Welling the other team, that will be progress indeed. Bit of a hiatus coming up soon, for after Dulwich and Havant next week, we seem to be mainly playing cup matches. Anyone know who we are playing yet, or when the draw will be?

Before the season started I thought that 10 points from August would be OK. 11 is a pretty good performance. I guess the FA Cup draw follows the round to be played on the 7th?
