So, didn't take long for the mud slinging to start, indeed did it ever stop... Not there, so can't comment on the play, but it is by no means unusual for promoted teams to start well and relegated ones to take time to settle in. As for a team with only one outfield player carrying over from the previous season, then (with hindsight) nobody should be too surprised. Hardly ideal, but there you go.

I am glad that I can take the flack from one or two individuals on here for voicing the same opinion as others have done !! ... I rarely go on the forum these days and I am starting to understand why !! ... Never mind , some people can express their views and not be criticized, I do and get insulted !! ... Not allowed to say what you feel ! . I thought that we lived in a society where freedom of speech existed !! Opinions are only allowed by some people, if those opinions are in line with theirs. This of course contradicts the nature of the term 'opinion', but those people concerned do to really have that level of understanding 😀👍⚽️

True words indeed and something of a comfort. But I doubt it will prevent oldboy from panicking !

We played well in patches but I would like to know why it took so long to make the substitutions? Jay was always criticised for leaving it so long.

I'm sorry but after 1 game it is ridiculous to be so harsh about the team and calling it abysmal is totally unnecessary. Frenchie knows my disliking to him I have told him before in person, and posts like this and the coach one about cancelling it don't help.

Our midfield was virtually non existent the whole game I’m afraid

I don't know who you are , so to say that you've told me in person that I was a prick or you didn't like me is news to me. I really don't want to do my dirty washing on here about " He said , she said ..." ...

Going to say now. Corne is atrocious. He and Kahn were poor. They never had control of the midfield and that’s where our main problems stemmed from today. The attack looked sharp at times and the defence looked relatively solid mostly - but our midfield didn’t support either the defence or the attack (except for Justin who was the best player on the pitch). Corne and Kahn just didnt cut it. Corne’s set-pieces were very poor I’m afraid.

Corne worries me, he looks super lightweight and he must of gave it away over a dozen times from simple passes. To overhit 3 corners and then put one straight out of play is unforgivable given you have just spent 6 weeks training for this game.
Early days I know. Justin looks our star man. Allen has a touch of Hines about him, will enjoy watching him this year. Problem is, they get injured and we are in trouble.

I'm amazed at some of the responses on here. This is a team that had never played a competitive game together before today. I though we might give them a few games before jumping on their backs. I thought we looked decent at times, but it's gonna take a while to build the understanding and we need to be patient and not start having a go at them after one game. They already look more of a team than last season's sorry lot.

Perhaps Kahn might be better with someone else alongside him in midfield. Corne was really poor and does look very lightweight, he offered no creativity and is certainly not a midfield general either. His free kicks and corners were dreadful. As you say, over hit and wasteful. Agree about Iffy Allen, he looked lively and full of trucks, kind of in a similar vein to Hines, yes. And Justin was very good. Edwards also did well - battles away and showed very good strength and skill at times.

Missed the match but saw enough PSF's to be concerned about central midfield. Khan looks very promising but that's about it.

Did we lose today because of our midfield? I didn't think so, both goals came from defensive errors. An area (defence that is) that had looked quite solid in preseason games.
The first came because George charged out and completely missed the ball and the man and the second conceded from a corner.
Both fullbacks had, for me, their worst games so far. No real idea why but time will tell if that was a one-off for them or they flattered in preseason games.
Personally I'd predicted a 1-1 draw so was only 2 minutes away from being correct but I acknowledge I was still wrong, much like all our set pieces.

Thought we looked especially vulnerable on the left. After being impressed, pre season, I was disappointed with Luke Pennel today, didn't look like a full back at all.
