Seen two of them before, but the dog racing one was new to me - very interesting.
The Charlton FAC picture is odd, as I was sure the bowling club terrace was used that day, and, with that size of crowd, would have been fairly full. It certainly was for the Gills game a year later.

It can't be the Charlton match, as it would have been dark. Kick-off was 7.30 in January, so this must have been another game.

Agree that it doesn't look like the Charlton FAC match. I'm pretty sure it was a sell out at about 10,500 and the the place was packed - the railway end in this photo is empty ..... Whilst that was always the quietest end of the ground, ghostly quiet in the few games I played there, for the Charlton game even that was stuffed with people ..... and yes it was dark, even darker 10 minutes from the end of course !!

The advert on the Wycombe match day programme for the Chequers Inn at West Farleigh brought back great memories of times with a rather nice blond who lived close by and the landlord , a huge guy with crazy hair and whiskers who, according to legend, was an officer with the Gurkhas. Always a great place to watch brawls between South London hop pickers and the local gypsies on a Friday night accompanied by great sounds from the best duke box in the area _ happy days.
COYS.

A Duke Box was a machine that you put money in and then you could chose a record to play - I guess you must have lived a very sheltered life Mr65 not have spent a days wages on one ? You could really piss people of by putting you selection on replay so that the same song was played over and over again - it was a great invention. I seem to remember that the whole of the ceiling was covered with beer mats - they were little square things that you where supposed to put you pint on on the table Mr Sword - just in case you have never heard of them as well

Our local youth club had one when I was a kid - 6d a play, or three for a shiling. I once went in with 10 bob's worth of shillings (a fortune then) and put a Mrs Mills piano record on repeat for 30 times - 90 minutes of continuous sing-along piano...
Needless to say, I got beaten up.

I may not have attended school on a regular basis, much preferred the pub or fishing, but I did learn how to spell and in my day it was JUKE BOX not a duke box which is something Prince Phillip will be in soon . The JUKE BOX at the London road ground cellar bar was brilliant for the time and you are right in one aspect as I used to play 'playground twist' by Siouxsie and the Banshees over and over again. As for beer mats ,well I used to collect them years ago but had to relinquish the collection through lack of storage space.
