Looking at our squad so far we are clearly not scrimping on our wages and I would rather we spent every penny on the team. A three bed house in Maidstone is about £1200 a month on rent alone! Contracts run for a year usually and with the movement of players at this level the club could be left with an empty house to pay for all season! This is shrewd business, we are not a league club, but in the second tear of non league! Remember Saunders was on a minibus course when sacked so he could ferry the first team around and the academy! We are a small club, well supported for a small club but small all the same. I’m sure older supporters whose kids have long moved out would like the idea of making a little extra cash and to have a first team player to show off about down the pub! Also we can cast our recruitment net a little further than the South East. This is far less embarrassing than not being able to field a team due to traffic!!

A rented three bedroom house won't cost the club a penny. It will be paid for by players, who earn money, playing professional football. Since when do their contracts include free accommodation? Flats and houses available from £900 pcm in Maidstone. £300 pcm each plus bills is a perfectly reasonable amount for anyone to pay.

I thought the club had an arrangement with a housing partner? What happened to that?

Interesting that Bill says: "To help increase our squad numbers we will be looking towards our academy and Under-23 development squad, where we will hope to add one or two fringe players to the first team."
Anyone got any tips as to who might be ready to make the step up?

Jacob Gilbert just completed his first year at academy. On trial at Luton Town last pre-season, played 26 times as 16 year old in Corinthians league runner up team this year. Watched by Brighton and Southend amongst others last season. Was on bench for Kent Senior Cup final and last game of season against Aldershot. Due to go on on trial at Stoke City shortly. Recovering from 3 years of Osgoods Schlatters now showing his real potential.
