We have entered an U23 league that will include the likes of Bromley and Aldershot
Once we have enough players it will be good to keep fringe players and Academy lads in the mix 👍🏻

Considering the players we've picked up that were released from PL/EFL U23 squads it makes me question how many clubs actually 'develop their own players'.
It might be worth remembering, when people start 'discussing' budgets again on this forum, that this team will be an additional expense on the club's finances with probably little income generated.

I don't know , if you could attract 200 a game with food and beer it could be a nice little earner. I for one will go if i cannot get to or afford first team games.

Great move, I think, on two counts.
I never quite understood how we can sustain a squad without having a reserves team - the fringe players hardly ever get match time, so this ought to be an opportunity to have a slightly deeper squad. (I'm sure the 'older' fringe players will still be glad of the time off!)
We've played 2 or 3 academy players - as subs -over the last few years, so obviously they were considered ready to be blooded , but AFAIK they've never been heard of again. (The only name I could recall was Archie Wrigglesworth - who is apparently now at Herne Bay - but still only playing yoofball?) Maybe this gives us a bit more of a bridge with the academy.
As I often struggle to commit the whole day for aways, I might be tempted to come down and see them.

Not quite...
"In keeping with other teams in the league, admission prices will be £4 for adults, £2 for concessions/students and free of charge for under 16s."

Seems like a good idea. I've long wondered how fringe players are supposed to keep match fit without playing reserve/U23 games. No amount of training is the same as actually playing a competitive game.
My only puzzle is the usual one of numbers (or the lack of them!). Assuming 'fringe players' are those who don't regularly make the first team or aren't regular subs, and that we need something like 14 or 15 U23s for a game, that adds up to a squad of about 28-30 players. Even allowing for playing a few Academy players each week, that still means a squad size that we've only ever achieved occasionally (and even then largely because we have too many players out injured or on loan) - and certainly a much bigger squad than it seems likely we'll manage this season.
So, presumably that means either quite a few non-fringe players playing twice a week/fortnight(?), or else an 'under23' side packed with Academy players.
Not a problem, I guess, but, as with the old ‘full-time’ conundrum, not quite what it first appears to be.

They are looking for a coach to do it for free and are looking for local players to come along for tryouts! It looks like it will be similar to friendly games usually played behind locked doors, but with the doors open and £4 for the privilege!! I’m guessing the majority of players will be playing for nothing in the hope of getting noticed. I reckon the set up will not be a financial drain on the club. If the quality of football is poor I suspect the amount of spectators may fall off very quickly! We shall see, but it looks good for the club.

You can see why they only mentioned Aldershot, Woking, Sutton and Bromley...

I have to ask the question- given we have had an academy model of teams at all ages with a 3G pitch for many years why haven’t we got more home developed players in the first team squad?
Those that did become promising seemed to go to EFL clubs then back down to clubs above and below us completely by passing the black and amber.
Must be disappointing that our JWW factory hasn’t produced more players for our own first team surely?

I bet Corinthian V Corinthian Casuals was a sell out with a huge police presents to quell the two sets of fans rioting! 😂

I suspect as a club we will recycle many old kits for the team to wear from about 4 different seasons making it look proper half arsed 🤦🏼♂️

Especially if the shirts still have their former owners names on.
