It's interesting to read some positive/optimistic posts following the signing of a player that has only delivered at NLS at best. Hopefully Lewis Knight will turn out to be an excellent signing but I don't think for a moment that it follows that most of our other signings will be from a similar background. I'm pretty sure that we will see a mix of signings with JS2 and HH also wanting to recruit some seasoned players who have delivered above NLS level. Well we wont be playing at a higher level than the NLS for a year or so will we. don't care what league it is, please play football, challenge all competitions wiv "pashun" and avoid a relegation dogfight. no more of last seasons drivel offerings.

I think hunger desire ambition attitude passion fun winners are they key characteristics in any player now recruited. And all of those were missing from most of our NL players last season. In reality we already had a NLS squad...which is why we finished bottom. John said he wanted hungry players..so far so good. Hungry players? Like Flisch in proximity to the Pie Hut?.

Just found an old program from our first season in the NL against Sutton at home. The squad list makes for interesting reading!
So just to be boring out of 27 players listed, three of which I’ve no idea where they came from so I’m not covering them!
We had 10 players from the Ryman Premier winning season.
Five players signed in or from the National South or in Stu Lewis’s case on loan from the NLS
Two players on loan from the football league in Pigott and Jake McCarthy
Then 3 players signed who were free agents who have played higher like Loza, Twamasi and Evans.
We had four from the National league in Lokko, Okuonghae, Prestedge and Yemi.
This was our best finish in the National league! We were part time then. So it makes it clear that the correct players don’t always come from higher divisions.

Could we possibly sign Rhys Murphy? 25 goals for Chelmsford this past season. Scored a brace for FGR when they came to JWW in August of '16. Supporters apparently paid part of his wages. Guessing that well has run dry, so have to move him on. Would love to see a Maidstone striker scoring goals for fun. Been a few years. Thought his name came up earlier, maybe in another post.

Agree would be a good signing but wages will definately be a problem

Can't see that chelmsford are huge payers, I'm sure we could match what they are paying, might not be a player that js likes as a fit for the team

Craig Mackail-Smith is another striker who may well be available and of interest to JS2. Loads of goals over the seasons, lots of EFL experience, maybe looking now to continue his career in NL/NLS. Seems Unlikely ? Probably a long shot but I reckon quite a few new signings will have links with John Still and his previous clubs CMS credentials ? Played for Dagenham, Luton and Peterborough.

And scored the first ever goal at the Gallagher Stadium! Already part of our history.

It's not really anti-nostalgia though is it. It's anti-players who've been released (presumably because they're not good enough) by a club in the same division as us.

So, in the light of recent to and fro in these threads about old palyers, new players with pashun and where the new squad should come from, what's our ideal next signing(s)?
Is it young players with pashun and promise, from NLS or below, together with some solid not too old NLS or above good uns like Lewis, and some wildcards from JS2 and HH's past connections?
I daren't mention ex-Stones because if you rule out those settled in NL, those who don't want FT, those recently released by NL or NLS clubs as they weren't good enough and those who we released because they weren't good enough, there's none left (Or would we still entertain ex-Stones not good enough for NL but could do well in NLS??)
I think it would be good if the next one came from the JS2/HH past connections route, but time will tell.

Don't care if he last played for the Stones two and a half years ago, I would have Dan Sweeney back in a shot.
