All I can see Dave is that since we went full time everything has gone south. :-) - literally.

DID HE REALLY DISGRACE HIMSELF OR SIMPLY STAND UP FOR HIMSELF ? Oldboy please elaborate with facts. FACTS??? How long have you been on this board? Indeed I thought previous posts were pretty clear that Lewis behaved badly on his last visit, but now Nick you have confused me - I cant recall any alternative view of this incident at the time so if you have some new news, please share it!
If Lewis didn't upset people other than just stand up for himself as you suggest, and is happy with the demands training wise he would get at JWW, I would have him back for sure but I don't think JS2 and HH know him..............or do they?

My impression (at least I was in the Spitfire at the time) was that Lewis reacted pretty strongly to some verbal shite he was getting from a Stones supporter. Fact is people get emotional and tribal when your team is playing badly and Lewis isn't the sort of person you can push around. Which is the sort of player we need. Not saying he is perfect but these things happen - Sometimes you need to shake hands afterwards and move on. On the field he is a marmite player, but better to have in your team rather than the other side.

I like Marmite, I like Lewis and was very unhappy when he left, and I agree with you - better to have him with us than against us in NLS, unless he is wanting to drop down to a Sticky club because of the Part Time thing.
But also, we mustn't hanker after the past. Interesting times indeed.

Go back to his performances before he left Nick and he was far from a star player, most of the times he huffed an puffed but his final ball missed it,s intended target an he showed obvious signs he was losing his cutting edge from seasons past, I think he is a player passing his sell by date not a player we should have back to pin are hops of marshalling the midfield.

You may be right jakeyboi, but can you be sure that he couldn't cut it at NLS level ? The fact is for 1.5 seasons, we can agree that Lewis was an excellent player for the Stones. But it's also true that for a handful of matches before he moved on, his play was ordinary.
Shall we judge him solely on his last few performances or the 60 or more competitive matches he played ? No idea whether he has still got what it takes to impress JS2 and HH who want passionate and hungry players. But the Stuart Lewis I remember was always very competitive and never gave up.

No one will know for sure Nick, an I dont think HH an JS will be brave enough to risk it all on Lewis, they have to get it right first time next year an maybe it,s too much of a risk in bringing back a player who was really good 2 seasons ago. I think they will go for hungry younger players. I liked Lewis to start but towards the end his heart had gone from the club an so had his passion it seemed.

Lewis has said he can't commit to Dover who train 4 mornings a week, so how could he commit to us when John Still wants us to train 4 mornings??

I don't do nostalgia.
Neither should MUFC.
Move on.

I suspect where we see Jay end up, Stu Lew could swiftly follow.
So long as it is close enough and fits in with his ideas of how much time he can commit.

Could we get Lewis back? Well yes he is a free agent so can be signed by anyone
Should we get Lewis back? No, we have to be looking forward to the future, even in the Dover games i saw him last season he did a lot of running but his passing and control was poor and he lacks pace.
Thank you Stu for coming in that first season and for your efforts last season but even prior to wheeler coming in he was being found out for lack of pace and poor passing, so i think we should be looking elsewhere.

No. Sane and sensible post (as per). So are you advocating we become a club with no ambition other than to survive? Not sure how long the support will hold up if we don't at least try for promotion. The whole point of competitive sport is to try and win, otherwise you might as well not bother.

The whole point of competitive sport is to try and win, otherwise you might as well not bother. All I can do is refer you to recent posts on Ebbsfleet and Gateshead. Ambition is one thing, but not at any expense. I will happily take a decent season or two in NLS (with the emphasis on good home form), to getting promotion only to find we are then in another season like the current one. There is no evidence at the moment that the club is ready to compete in the NL. Until we are, then there is little point in going back if all we will do is suffer. Plus, I don't think the NL has that much to offer over the he NLS at the moment anyway.
