As we approach the arse end of a dismal season and with news of the Donnellans being told they are no longer required, here's a question to grapple with. Among the 57 varieties tried this season, what would have been our best eleven, plus subs and assuming reasonable fitness and form? Here's a starter:
Smith in goal WDH and Finney as CBs Phillips and McLellan FBs Powell, Davies and A.N. Other in midfield. Have we ever had a midfield this season? Turgott, Cassidy (first edition) and Embrey up front. Romain, Amaluzor and Swaine as subs.
Am sure that cannot be the best and probably easier to pick a worst XI. Discuss, or not...

Getting rid of Finney was arguably the biggest mistake this season...and there have been plenty.

Doyle over McClellan any day.
Finney didn’t do a great deal for us this season, and has still been part of a struggling Aldershot. I think last season being paired with Wynter made him seem a lot better than he was

I just think Finney's confidence was shot this season by Harry. He was PoY last season when we stayed up!!

No is the answer to this thread. Every team you try and pick will have holes in it!

The North side The Genco Stand is the biggest (& most tuneful ) success from our time in the national division

I would definitely have Amaluzor in midfield in place of A.N.other and how dare you drop Jack Richards from the bench . Jack has made that position his own this year and has far more experience than anyone else in the squad at sitting there.

The problem we have had in nl is giving away soft goals to our opponents and even last season Finney was at fault for a number of them. The problem is so have so many of our other defensive players. I do agree with daveu about Swaine though wouldn't mind him coming back. As for best team 4-4-2 Smith Doyle - wdh - Swaine - Wilson Mclennon - phillips - Powell - amaluzor Turgott - embery Subs: Lewington, davies, robinson, after that struggling to find someone who i would want maybe wabo to see what he can do

Getting rid of Finney was arguably the biggest mistake this season...and there have been plenty. He had a great opening game for Aldershot but since then he has failed to do anything that sets him apart from anyone we have had. IMO I would prefer Swaine in his place, but niether are that brilliant.

Smith Phillips WDH Swaine Doyle Lewis Davies Turgott Powell Amalazour Emereby Subs: Worgan, Finney, Romain, Robinson, Cassidy

We really need to build an entirely new squad for next season because hardly anyone has shown that they are too good for the NLS.
