Well at least that is settled. Always felt that the idea we would always get 'better quality and highly motivated players by offering lower wages and evening coaching', was at least very questionable. Glad that the club is giving the right signals in terms of looking forward. What you're forgetting Nick (at least according to some) is that by going back to evening training and lower wages we will attract players with "pashun and hunger"

Always felt that the idea we would always get 'better quality and highly motivated players by offering lower wages and evening coaching', was at least very questionable. Glad that the club is giving the right signals in terms of looking forward. What you're forgetting Nick (at least according to some) is that by going back to evening training and lower wages we will attract players with "pashun and hunger" Thanks all for the confirmation. My point was that part-time players may be more grateful to play for us in NLS and so have more passion - as that was how it seemed to work for us before when we were in NLS, and even in our first NL season............with the Stones favourites who are now long gone.
However, staying full-time in NLS raises questions regarding what quality of players we will get - if that is we are still looking at full timers who cant get an NL club.......... as that to me sounds like overpaid has-beens or never-weres happy to just still pull a FT wage with little commitment. Again.
It also means that we are putting ourselves in the "big boys" in NLS expected to win the league or at least bounce straight back. Whilst that may be "giving the right signals in terms of looking forward" is it realistic, given that we are looking for a whole new playing staff, and need to re-group our whole strategy to compete in NL?
If we had an existing full-time squad that had been around a while and were borderline NL and we were keeping most of them as they would be great in NLS, I could understand the staying full time idea, but aren't we having a wholesale clear out?
Or is this Full-Time NLS squad going to all be rising part-time starlets so amazed to become FT that they play their heart and souls out.........like Jake Embery?
The latter may work, and would certainly be very exciting, but my concern is that another season of full timers who cant get an NL club-i.e. overpaid has-beens or never-weres - and we will do a double drop.
So, I hope JS2's scouting has been for a squad of young and very promising Jake E's whom he is taking PT to FT. Stills babes perhaps?

The theory is great, but not too sure it works in practice. Isn't that what Non league manager of some repute-Terry Brown tried/had to do at basingstoke, where i don't think it was an overwhelming success .

That would be typical, and definitely not the first time. I went to a night match down at the old Weymouth ground in the 79/80 season, Graham Roberts was playing for them at the time. I missed the last regular train back, and ended up getting the bloody milk train, which stopped at every single station on the way back to London, some of which I think were invented, just so they could make as much noise as possible, preventing me from getting any sleep whatsoever.

I think John Stills record for finding talent stands up against any non league manager. Don't forget he uncovered Andre Gray amongst many others.

Staying full time is a concern with regard to quality, compared to top part timers. Let's hope that it does not turn out to be the big mistake of the 19/20 season.

True. Moving definitions subject to interpretation?

Who says we are full time ? At the meeting a few months back when asked if we would still be full-time in the National South, Bill said the plan was to stay as we are.

I guess that answers it inasmuch that full time appears to equal attending 3 morning coaching sessions every week - it's a hard life !
