Our previous manager (71-75) sadly passed away last month aged 83.

Yes sad indeed .... Robbie's was my first Stones team and despite seeing them at the end of 1972/3 my first programme bought was the first Souther League Premier Division game of 1973/4 (11th August) against Wimbledon. As a 9 year old then I couldn't tell you anything about the game now, but even then there were names to conjure with ..... Maggs, Everest, Angel, Tough, McVeigh, Priestley .... and a certain keeper playing against us that day R Guy !!!

Wasn't Robbie Stepney the one with the seventies curly hair and tache like an extra from Life on Mars or a Jason King stand in?
How we could do with an iron man brick wall centre half like Colin Priestley and a goalie like Dickie Guy or Derek Bellotti today! Not to mention a classic brilliant proper right back like McVeigh.
My favourite Stones player from around that era came a little later and was a classically brilliant left back who could tear down the wing and fire crosses over for Andy Woon called one Mr Chris Kinnear!
I'm not called Oldboy for nothing.

Of course he was, my bad.
Billy Edwards of Wimbledon vs Leeds fame was on the left with Guy in goal and Aitken in the middle, all three from that Wombles FA cup team. We also had an ex-Don called Lucas up front I think as well.

Ah, Dave Lucas, another one of those signings who didn't fulfil his potential in a Maidstone shirt.

And a mission for JDL - Andy Woon was always a favourite of mine, but someone opined to me recently that he was useless. So what was his scoring record like, compared to Clive Green, say?

You are both right Right Back with Billy Edwards on the left later Left Back with Brian Thompson on the right Wow thanks my memories not so bad after all! Kinnear at left and right back and this season we didn’t have either! Ah well let’s pray JS2 recruits anew squad that Hakan can actually coach into winning, but I have my doubts. Let’s see.
