How pleased am I to be wrong? Very pleased is the answer. Having predicted a dull 0-0 I was pleasantly surprised at seeing a proper game of football against our greatest enemies and having missed last season's encounter I found myself even more surprised at how badly I wanted to beat the scumbags. Right let's get things into perspective ,it wasn't their first team but it did have a few in there mainly returning from injury. The game ebbed and flowed nicely and Romaine once again put in a workmanlike performance and capped it with a great equaliser but he could and should have had at least two more. Paxman was everywhere and nowhere baby but did ok. Our defence was once again lacking any real quality for both goals conceded. Wishart is an anomaly who looks the part but isn't. Henry made a couple of smart saves but just does not fill me with any confidence when he plays. Half time 1-2 and as we kicked off for the second half I was contemplating just how bad Amaluzor was and then he ups and scores with a sublime finish but if he is going to be a success for us,or anyone else, then he has to learn how to stay on his feet and not fall over at the slightest touch especially in the penalty area or his bookings will soon mount up . Thanks to Arriva buses ,who have brought the 101 forward 10 minutes i had to miss the penalties though thankfully our forwards didnt. Overall a 7 out of 10 performance that is a massive 5 out of 10 improvement on the rest of the seasons performances. Which leaves us with Bromley in the final so well done Bromley for winning the trophy this year and saving me the bother of watching the final. Negative? Moi? No it's Bromley they have such a hoodoo over us they could not turn up and still beat us.

The difference in lasts nights game is that we had a midfield willing to protect the back 4 and put in a shift,Davies and Donellan working very hard with Davies for me MOM.He covered so much ground and contributed to attack on numerous occasions.Evertime he has played midfield it makes a difference.Im also not sure what to think of Amaluzor as he seems to make good runs but cant seem to get ball under control?? Good battling performance from the boys with 6 changes.COYS

I'm also not sure what to think of Amaluzor as he seems to make good runs but cant seem to get ball under control?? What Amaluzor has got is the potential to produce moments of great skill ( like his superbly taken goal last night ) mixed in with some frustrating miss fires ( like his pen ). If he was good all the time he'd be living in a mansion & playing Champions League. Definitely one to persevere with though.

Not sure what to make of it last night. Quite a good game and did well to get back into it after the first 15-20 minutes when they looked so much better. Agree that Davies was very good and Donnellan certainly gets round the pitch. However, it's difficult to tell what this means, if anything, for the rest of the season, or next.
Amaluzor has something but that something is almost always when's he's on his left foot - the finish was very good, for example.
As for others, Wishart is a much better player than this level I think but I'm not sure he's that bothered anymore.

As he is exciting to watch - and fall over - I am a fan of Am-a-new-Lozar, and I think he will do well for us. I also hope we keep Romain next year as I think that he will get goals in NLS. Totally agree with you about Henry, Pax and Wishart but I thought that Leo Donnellan is one to watch, very promising, and buried his penalty well. Also great subbing by HH to bring Powell and Blair on in time for penalties, and HH took off the right two as well in a misfiring Pax and Phillips.
The Gills fans were well bad and their charge at us and throwing missiles at us at 2-1 reminded me of the bad old days of football, so good to see the Stewards take control and evict the yobbos, but even better to send home the idiot "fans" with a defeat at the hands of a relegated NL side. Football League? You're having a laugh!
Don't be so negative about Bromley, Sword - you were negative about last night and were wrong. With nothing else to play for this year, and if we play like last night or better, footballs coming home on 16th April! Anyone know where the game will be played?

I don't think it was meant to teach us anything about next season or help with this season it was simply about beating our main rivals the Gills. Anyone who thinks there is no rivalry should just look at how both sets of fans celebrated their goals and the atmosphere for a KSC game. Shame more Stones fans were not there.

[/quote] Certainly agree that HH was right on the money with the subs. MUFC streetwise, surely not . For next year, I hope we somehow can keep Will De Havilland. Great player to build a team around. Not his fault this year that he's had crap full backs & crap defensive midfield as cover.

My random thoughts:
DeHaviland - remains unpredictable for me summed up by yesterday's attempted second half clearance in front of the main stand when 'last man'. The hoof into / or above the main stand was clearly required and clearly attempted. Result? Ball goes vertical for 25 feet and drops down behind DeHaviland allowing Gills forward to run in on goal.
Wishart - clearly has the ability and powerful clearances with both head and feet. However, watch how many times in each match he'll choose to turn with the ball rather than clear and then watch how many times he's then closed down and the clearance blocked.
Henry - from my distance looked unimpressive for both goals. However, good saves at the death from Gills freekick and for first Gills penalty which set the tone for the penalty shootout.
Paxman - anonymous throughout the game. If that was potentially his last game for us he didn't advertise his skills or ability to any prospective new employer.
Romain - took his headed goal really well. Continues to work hard and get in good positions but, simplistically, one doesn't expect him to put the ball in the net when he shoots.
Assistant referee on riverside - consistently poor throughout the game. Posed well in the warm-up but yards behind the play in both halves resulting in apparently guessing offside decisions a number of which he got wrong. Not biased just not very good.

I’m believing your assessment of Paxman over a few I’ve seen on Twitter waxing lyrical about him. Henry does seem a fairly good shot stopper with reflexes but sadly that’s only a fraction of his game and feel more comfortable seeing Lewington on the tram sheet. Not reading too much into beating Gillingham as I think Ebbsfleet will be more of the same that we are used to seeing. How did Donnellan get on?

If Amalozor could use both feet, he'd be quite a player - though not for us. You'd think such things would be a major focus in coaching sessions AND the player have ms of would want to make it happen too.

Positives: Donnellon (Leo) had a decent game in centre mid, getting around chasing balls breaking play up, almost got an assist as well after winning a ball and putting a decent ball over for romain.
Davies i really like him in the holding midfield role, breaks the play up wins the headers and has got some decent distribution.
Meredith going forward was good, did struggle a bit defensively as our wide men didn't track back.
We beat the gills for the second straight season, twice coming from behind, wisharts penalty he didn't place the ball down the keeper put it on the spot and wish was cool as you like. Romains goal was a thing of beauty great ball from Meredith and great header down into the bottom corner.
Negatives: Jarvis struggled a lot, for me he needs to learn to deal with the ball and not let it bounce.
Paxman how he has got 19 votes for man of the match is beyond me what were these people watching, constantly out of position, daydreaming defensively just leaving his man to walk past him, running down blind alleys trying to do too much. He tripped over the ball twice from our own throw ins. If our fans want to see a decent creative midfielder then their number 20 oldaker would be the perfect example always found space, worked hard defensively and found his teammates with his passing.
We gave Gillingham too much time and space outwide, they forced our fullbacks to move in tight then they had their fullbacks overlapping and as our wide men amuluzer and pax failed to track back this caused us a lot of problems.
