Don't wish to be controversial in the wave of joy hope and optimism at our fantastic first home League win for seven months, but either the Stones TV highlights missed a lot of the game or whatI saw showed Havant with more structured play and attacks than us, with the Stones only looking dangerous on the break (Normally from a hoof), and our general play still being keepie uppie or hoofball rather than passing , with only the fact that we scored two good goals being the key difference between weak relegation two teams. On that basis, I don't see anything other than another tonking at Eastligh, who are solid NL. A wet and windy 3-0 home win with Eastleigh not out of first gear. Of course, I hope I am wrong and the Embery goalscoring machine has a field day, but it think it may be more like back to reality. This is so far from the game I saw that it made me go and check the highlights. And I don't really understand how you saw what you did. The shorter highlights we get these days often don't really give the full picture of the game, but these were actually pretty accurate. The game wasn't all good, by any means, especially after Embery went off, and Turgott ran out of steam, but it wasn't how you describe it at all. H&W did trouble our defence quite a few times - and our defence made a bit of a pickle of it, but, other than the offside 'goal', they never looked seriously like scoring. Whereas, with better finishing, we could have had another three easily. But it is your 'hoofball' comment that really puzzles me. It was still there, obviously, but there was also a lot of decent passing. If you go back and look at the goals/attempts, you'll see most of them were actually from passes out of midfield. Quite deep at times, yes, but hardly hoofball. It really showed up both how much we've missed Turgott, and what a talent Embery is. But you're generally point is correct - one win against a team as inept as H&W doesn't necessarily mean much, and none of us will be too surprised if we get nothing out of Eastleigh and their awful pitch. But there were genuine signs of change and hope on Saturday. All the players in our squad didn't become crap overnight, and, with Turgott back and a genuine goal scorer up the front, their confidence was back. Still too much to ask that we survive in the NL, of course, but at least it now looks like we won't be suffering the awful end of season that many of us feared. Hi LLCoolJ I just watched the highlights again and they show a lot of whites attack’s carefullybbuilt up with passing moves - albeit coming to nothing- with only a bit of us doing the same and our main strategy - which got both goals - is to sprint forward and look for the long through ball. Maybe not hoof, but still a bit kick and rush as opposed to passing and building- I.e playing football. It worked against Havant a clueville and the goals were brilliantly taken but we still need to play football-passing and building to beat better teams. Kick and rush is better than what we have been doing and will get results but the hype from the win led me to believe we played better than that. Step at a time I suppose, get some points from kick and rush and the players may regain confidence to pass more and beat players like Powell’s excellent little ball play early in the game to leave the defender for dead. Not sure how it will go down tonight. If the game is on!

Kick and Rush. Well the first was a superbly timed run from Embery and a pinpoint pass to pick him out. The second was in many respects, identical. The timing of the run and the vision of Phillips to pick him out was what made the chance. Hardly kick and rush. We have tried to play the kind of passing you advocate from time to time and it is often so pedestrian as to be painful. Injecting a bit of pace doesn't make it kick and rush.

Havant weren’t pedestrian in their passing just no end result. Our Passes for the goals found their mark yes but for NL professional football our passing should be better. If you are talking Semipro and NLS then a midfield passer looking to put the sprinting striker through all the time is more acceptable - and Embery may score 30 goals like that in NLS like that. Seems like we have been so not a proper NL side for so long now our expectations of good football are getting lowered. Hey if it works in NLS and we come straight back up like that I’m not knocking it but all the time we are Full time I don’t thinks it’s unreasonable to expect some more passing that’s all. Maybe it will come in time. Who knows.

If it's rained there like it's done here for the last hour, the pitch will be saturated. I can't see how it will drain or dry in time.

Apparently they have pitch covers. Are they made of a 3G material?

I am 20 miles the other side of Southampton and it’s stopped raining. But could just as easily start again at any time

Either way, a soggy pitch won’t suit our passing football
