Embrey could be a real find. Pace to burn and knows where the goal is. Needs looking after though as the Neanderthals in this league will soon have him a marked man. However, looks to have a footballing brain and his late runs into space will serve him well, even in this league. A matter of time before Turgott gets on the score sheet again, but some lovely touches, which showed what we've been missing. Special mentions to Wishart and Swaine in defence, plus the selfless running of Romain up front, just a shame his passing isn't better. Indeed - all the promise Robinson never showed. And the goals as well, if today is anything to go by. I thought he coped with the typical NL defenders pretty well (especially considering the huge step up), although they started clattering him after the goal. Amazing find if this is just the beginning. Turgott is looking good, but clearly not yet back to his best, or fully match fit. His pace isn't there at the moment, but his trickery is still as good. Noticeably tired/faded in the last quarter, but that's to be expected. He'll soon be back to his best, but even not yet the full Turgott, he still made a huge difference to the game. And what a difference to the team's confidence! I know all the ifs and buts, but we're not down yet, and for the first time in ages, I left JWW feeling positive.

Win the next three at Eastleigh, Wrexham and then home to Ebbsfleet and only then will it look like we have a chance, especially with Barnet, Aldershot and Braintree to come. However, it's not going to happen, though winning most of our remaining home games would go a long way to making up for our miserable season - plus creating an all important bit of momentum to start off in NLS.

Powell was great today, but he more than most need to do it again Tuesday so he can shake off the so far rightful label he’s a hot and cold player. Now is the real test Very true post. There was one particular flick / turn from Powell in the first half and you thought ' goodness, he's a good player ' , then you thought, ' but where's that been all season ? ' …..

The difference today was Control of the midfield with Powell doing his thing and Davies protecting the back 4, as well as an option other than a high ball up front.

Wasn’t the balance of the team positive first half as well. Nice passing, moves , etc. And yet we’ve had better looking teams ‘ on paper ‘ this year and got humped

Embrey looks quality though he nearly messed his goal up by stopping and looking for the linos flag for offside, play to the whistle young man however he recovered quickly for a sublime finish. Could have had a couple more but was unlucky. Powell looked a different player today so hopefully this is the start of a hot run of form from him. I thought some of Turgotts thru balls were majestic today , oh how we have missed him ,can't wait to see what he can do when fully fit. The rest grew in confidence and we were deserved winners but let's not get carried away we beat a team who looked 2 levels below us. One last thought I hope Embrey isn't too successful just yet or dome club will come in and snatch him away before next season.

Talking of strikers, leading the line for H & W, a certain Joe Quigley, you remember, that chap we started with this season along with Sham...
Recruited after scoring a burst of 3 goals in 5 games for Eastbourne Boro in NLS.
No wonder H & W fans are so downhearted.

Why are teams still bothering with him when they know he is an abject failure?

The first game I've managed to get to for nearly two months and I have to ask what have you lot been moaning about? ;-)
He shouldn't kid ourselves that H&W were strong opponents but we've lost to worse a good few times over the last few seasons so it's encouraging that we didn't do our usual of dropping to and below their level.
Anyway embarrassing admission time : during the warm up when the players jogged over to the riverside I was thinking to myself, blimey has it been that long? I don't recognise any of these guys. Aha so we've swapped warm up ends now have we, can't remember if that was the case at the last came I got to (Daggers).
An interesting insight anyway from Shaun Gale that he would have loved for them to go full time (they are currently two evenings a week) but intimating that one of the reasons they didn't was because the changes to the playing staff would have been too widespread.
Obviously finances will dictate, but it does make me hope that assuming we are in NLS next year we do still stay full time. By the same token that JS2 was trying to build a core squad for more than one season, I think and hope that JS3(ex 1) is investing not just in a strong NLS campaign next year but also in a squad that can transition back into the National the following year.
Anyway on to the game.
Good all round I thought, I can't think of anyone that had a bad game.
Wishart, Powell, Phillips & Embury would have probably been my stand outs but not by far, Powell just about shaded MoM for me - but even then he seemed to lose interest on a small number of occasions (there were a few times when he could have made himself available for an easy pass in the attacking half - maybe he was under instruction to hold back?)
Romaine I agree works really hard and does trouble defences (there was one moment in the second half where he was swarmed by 5 defenders to dispossess him!) but he doesn't seem to really threaten and wonder if there is really a place for him here if a front line of two Jakes will work. Someone mentioned Elliott's poor passing - well he made an excellent side-foot back pass to their keepah in the first half when either wellying or placing in a corner were really the required plays.
To be honest I didn't really notice Davies too much - but then I was at the attacking end both halves and also have to confess that I never really noticed the contribution of Rogers when he was with us, so perhaps I have a blind spot for that type of player. The injury did look pretty nasty, so I hope that he is okay. I was pretty disgusted with the orangutan armed H&W number exhorting the ref to "just get 'im off the pitch" (although in fairness fans often say the same) - by my watch there was a five minute delay for the incident so I think the 7 minutes added meant that H&W were not short changed there.
Blair of course is great to have back, but he somewhat reminded me of Hines today in that he often seemed to want to find one to many players to get around. Hopefully more time with the latest incarnation of the team and more obvious 'options' presenting themself that won't be a problem. It's certainly great to have him back.
My biggest disappointment though was how we invited them on to us and put ourselves under pressure especially in the second half.
In particular set pieces really screamed out me - when we were attacking we kept three back to cover their one forward ; defensively we kept no-one up (at least in the 2nd half, can't recall if that was the case in the 1st?) Hence the pressure kept coming back.
Can't argue with a clean sheet though, so credit where it is due, but it didn't make for the most comfortable watch.
I'm quite looking forward now to my next chance to see the Stones - there's an off-chance that I may be able to make Wrexham away next Saturday and that would certainly be a more interesting challenge.
A 10 point (and multiple goals) catchup over 10 games is better than 13 from 11, so who knows? (Other than all of us)

Recruited after scoring a burst of 3 goals in 5 games for Eastbourne Boro in NLS. No wonder H & W fans are so downhearted. Actually I meant to mention Quigley in my write-up; I did try to keep an eye out for him during the game. Although he clearly didn't influence the game massively, he looked substantially more useful than he did for us (not a very high bar I confess). For a team soon to be in the NLS with a potential vacancy for a 'big man up top' on what I saw today he could definitely be on the shortlist - it won't happen here, but I suspect we could be hearing some more of him next season.
An instruction went out to H&W in the last 20 minutes today - get some diagonals in to Joe Quigley - I don't think they achieved a signal one after that - but clearly they think he has something.
Out of interest where is Shamir these days?
[Oops] My short term memory loss [/Oops] - He got a (temporary) EFL berth with the Macc - but I don't think has played yet.

Re embery, it wasn't just his all round play that impressed me (Rose was trying to kick lumps out of him as embery was making rose look bad) it was his composure in front of goal, of players would have smashed it into the keeper but he had his head up was calm and made the right choice with a delightful finish, i think he gave the team some confidence and glad he is under contract for next season even when he came on at Solihull last week he was constantly moving looking to make things happen.
Powell played really well, a few poor set pieces but we are improving on these.
Swaine after his performance up at Stockport where he was on the end of everything, i was surprised we hadn't seen him since and after that performance I'd like to see him remain with the team next season big lump of a guy heads everything no nonsense defender.
Davies was playing well in that holding midfield role until he went off, just picking up the pieces and shifting the ball on, nothing special but it then gets us the ball and allows players like Turgott and Powell to attack and create.
Lewington i hope is our keeper next season class act and commands his box
Was expecting a bit more form Havant to be honest they seemed to have some nippy players when we played at there place but must've been where we only had ten men after Bradbury shithoused it so romain got sent off, anyone else notice he tried to do it again today to one of our players, the fuckin has been.
