Are any of the Salford Eleven on here? I'd love to hear a fan's view of the game. Is the replay going to be a typical Tuesday night FAT game that half the fans can't be arsed to go to, or has JS's arrival and the unexpected result against Salford renewed interest in this cup? It would be great to see substantially more than the usual 1,500 core at JWW. We grew to about 20 as more converged to the "away corner" after the photo.
Home for 2am despite it chucking it down almost all the way and the Highways Agency helpfully closing the M6 between juncts 17-16.
My match thoughts will follow shortly but a draw was the least we deserved - need to properly wake up first . Will be interesting to read Salford's view of the game.

Draw! Well done guys. Now, when is the replay? Next Tuesday. Salford are currently saying 'date to be arranged'.

I reckoned there was about 20 fans there last night which I thought was damn good considering, we didnt get home till about 3..30 but in my opinion we did enough to have won the game, they were the happiest team when the whistle went. Good to see players really try last night. Lovely touch when they came over to the fans at the end to say thanks. Biggest disappointment of the night was lack of passion from the home fans. Still not seen anything confirming the replay date yet.

Were we good or were they poor?
Salford played a much changed side. My rough analysis found only three of yesterday's starters had started in either of their last two league games (draws at home to Gateshead and goalless away to Halifax) and none of those three had played in both.
The heavy rain and pitch that unsurprisingly cut up didn't help either side.
Having said that we played very well compared to our usual fare this season despite - or is it because of? - playing no recognised attackers.
Paxman's run and pass to Phillips to score was really good as was Phillips finish. VAR might have shown something amiss in our last ditch defence seconds before that effectively ended Rooney's threat and appearance on the night but I saw nothing obvious from the sidelines.
Our new keeper wobbled with a miskick clearance - could blame the conditions? - of a throughball on the edge of the box inviting the lob back in to the empty net. He survived that but got, what I thought at the time was an unnecessary hand to a 'shot' across his goal that looped back over him to an unmarked Salford player to tap in. Can't remember him having to do a great deal else in the game though.
Second half I thought we were resorting to our standard tactics of trying to defend too deep and invite them on to us and then, whether under instructions from the bench or Walton on the pitch, we were starting to go forwards and attack all over the place. Perhaps at times a little too gung-ho but only really got caught once, just into to time added on, which fortunately their player put in to the side netting.
Can remember at least three times in the latter stages Salford had to resort to physically pulling back our players as we surged forwards. One, where he was the last man, regrettably I think the ref was correct with just a yellow card as we were heading towards the corner and not the goal. Apart from that one breakaway all the threat in the last 20 minutes was from us and, based only on what he achieved in his cameo appearance last night, the introduction of Aryan earlier might have been decisive. Suspect the corner count was heavily in our favour.
In the car on the way home we discussed man of the match candidates. We agreed no one had a poor game and everyone worked really hard. My MotM would be one of: Paxman Powell Phillips Wishart Meredith
Not sure what last night tells us about the replay but if Salford take it seriously and play their 'first team' I suspect we'll still struggle even with Cassidy back. But what do I know? I thought last night was going to be another defeat just waiting to be recorded

If I was to pick a MOTM then it would be Phillips, playing in a unusual position in horrid conditions I thought he did ok he tried an tried an never really gave up on anything. Compared to recent performances it was very encouraging to see the guys give so much effort. Maybe they are starting to listen to what is being asked of them. They did drop deep in the 2nd half almost asking Salford to attack, what worries me is will there be times when Walton tries to tell players on the pitch to do one thing when the orders from the sidelines are different, there is that saying about too many chefs etc. Overall a really much improved performance which has come at the right time when peoples expectations an positive belief had begun to drop. Be just as positive in the replay an we could easily sneak a win on the night.

Only negatives were our latest young dodgy keeper - I'm torn between "but we've got to give him a chance" and "Play Josh as he has more senior experience", Richards on the bench despite having no strikers, and the fact that Salford seemed to be well under strength. The rest is all positives. Phillips is already lead candidate for player of the year, going from out of position right back to out of position striker and doing brilliantly in both, (although attacking midfield/winger seems best for him) as did Pax and Powell as makeshift strikers and the overall effort was great, with Walton proving what everyone has been saying about how invaluable he is on the pitch. Overall, we should have won. WDH as always put in a good shift and good performance to from Wishart looking very good going forward. Very promising. Last word has to be what an advert for 3G it was to see the pitch at Salfords expensive and lovely stadium cutting up like a 1970's mudbath. It wouldn't happen at JWW, so why do NL and EFL still look down their noses at 3G? We can, and should win the replay and the performance gave hope for the league games coming up. COYS!

I,m going to give the young keeper the benefit of the doubt as I think the weather played a part in last nights game so see how he goes in the next match, other than that I think he played ok.As I said before every member of the team played well last night, far better than I thought we would before the game started.

Pretty harum-scarum, in awful conditions. Couple of dodgy moments for our new keeper, but would hope he will soon settle in. Phillips just goes from strength to strength. Really took his goal well. The downside is that, regardless of which league we find ourselves in next season, holding on to him might be a challenge, as he will start attracting interest from the EFL teams. And good luck to him if he does. We can only hope to enjoy while it lasts, for he's been one of the few positives in an otherwise poor season this far.

Josh doesn't have more senior experience though. At least the new keeper spent 3 months playing in the National North. The only time Josh played regular football was last season and that was at Ryman North level.

Logically (for what that's worth in football), if they weren't bothered about the first game (playing their '2nd team'), why would they bother risking their first team on a long mid-week trip (and the dreaded 3G!)? The fact that they played a 2nd string team last night, in a cup that is (usually) high priority for non-leagues sides, would indicate that their focus is very much on the league and promotion.
Of course, it could just be that they expected us to be crap, and therefore their 2nd string side would be able to do the job, without bothering their 'league' players. And, now they've seen us put up decent fight, they'll take the replay more seriously. But, if I were them, with their aspirations (and money), just three points off the championship, I wouldn't take any risks with my first team squad.
Personally, I'm more worried about the fact that it's at home...

Just watched the highlights, and very impressed with our performance. Good to see Paxman back in the team and back on form. And Phillips' goal was a proper striker's goal - he really has come on over the season (can't see him staying with us if we do go down though). As for the goalie - purely from these highlights - at first I thought he looked like an accident waiting to happen, but he did make some excellent saves later on, so perhaps he just needed to settle in. He's not Smith or Worgan, but if he keeps balls out - however he does it - that's all that really matters.
Let's hope the team can play like that at home!
And, a last point - another excellent advert for 3G!

Ok, fair point - someone previously pointed out that Josh had more experience at Senior level than Ethan Ross and so I though it was the same with this chap. To be fair to him, he did settle into his game and make some competent stops after the early jitters, so hopefully he wont concede too many silly goals whilst he's here.

If the answer is yes, I pray to God that I never have the misfortune to stand near you at a game.
