Steve Jones signed from Deal Town for the hefty sum of £2000 - about £1999.01 too much🤣

Atwood had one of the all time hair cuts though. That counts for a lot. Absolutely. Wasn't he the brother of the lead singer of Kajagoogoo?

That would be Steve Jones who we signed from Chatham Don't want to be pedantic but it was Deal if i recall correctly Seems we're both actually wrong....he signed from Ramsgate according to the old official website Chairman And Ward Bring In 'Golden Boot' (7/8/01)
In an exclusive announcement to the club website Paul Bowden-Brown revealed that Stones had signed probably the best player in the Kent League last season, Steve Jones from Ramsgate. Jones was by far the highest scorer in the league last season knocking in an amazing 38 goals in all competitions ranking him one of the highest scorers in the whole of the non-league pyramid aa well as being the recipient of last season's Golden Boot Award, beating nearest rival Liam Hatch of Herne Bay by 14 goals. web.archive.org/web/20010822090157/http://www.maidstoneunited.co.uk/news/index.htm

We know where Greenhalgh is (He a goalie now) , and isnt Zac at the mighty Sevenoaks?

Zac Atwood. Goal scoring record before signing was great, couldn't hit a cows butt with a banjo for us. Even when he played at the gally for Crowborough he took one of the worst pens I've ever seen. The bloke scored 24 goals in the season he played for us....that isn't even close to being a flop.

Atwood was doing so well for us he was waiting for a league club to come in for him! Saunders told him he would need to have at least another good season at that level to prove himself! He promptly signed for big spending Margate! He went on to score against us at the Gallagher in the same game Alex Brown scored a screamer and Billy Bricknal finished them off to make it 2-1 Following that season Atwood dropped off the edge of the world!

Even to someone who witnessed that period first hand, the phrase "big spending Margate" still seems utterly weird!

I am finding it difficult in understanding why Zac has gained such a negative perception by some. I thought he was great for the Stones, and I seem to remember a fair few bemoaning him leaving the club.

I thought he was great for the Stones, and I seem to remember a fair few bemoaning him leaving the club. Propably because he left us for Margate, just for more money. Whatever the logic of such moves, they will always leave a bad taste with supporters. Hence he is remembered for that and for not being much good after he left, rather than for what he did while he was with us.

At the time, I suppose, going to a strong local rival was going to feel treacherous. Thinking back, I probably had emotionally charged thoughts about it myself. However, with the passage of time, reading this Kent Messenger article does, I would have thought, soften the perspective. We have all got to think of our own families, and financial situation. www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/sport/attwood-accepts-gate-offer-17283/

Glenville Donegal joined us in 1991 and when we went tits-up he went to Rushden & Diamonds before quitting football and emigrating to Oz to set up his new business.

To save any possible embarrassment while being treated, it is probably be best to think of Karl Malden naked.
