Yes the old training pitch that was really short and hidden behind the shops on London Road! It survived the ground sale. It’s a horrendous waste of space, either build a Church or piss off!!

For an academy pitch we would need floodlights changing room etc. Cobdown or something like it would be ideal. Just pipedreams for now though.

I think the rental income argument will become less and less important. Many places now, such as schools, are investing in 3G and hiring out their pitches to raise funds so competition will increase. What is interesting is why Stones seem unable to play well on our 3G when opposing teams seem to love it! Yes, I think our 3G business model is starting to turn sour in the face of competition and EFL digging their heels in and I predict we will have grass back at the Gallagher as soon as we are able to re-lay the 3G pitch at another venue...........both of which need huge wads of cash which wont be arriving soon. I doubt it would be cost-effective to relocate the 3G. Given the costs involved, including buying a piece of land to put it on and changing facilities etc., you could be talking about another 500K. If we had that sort of money I am certain it would be put into what we still need at The Gallagher. The Maidstone area now has several superb, full-size 3G pitches with lights that can be hired, so why would you bother? Presumably the pitch would have a decent value if sold second-hand instead.

Surely a decision to be made when the current 3G pitch is life expired in a few years time, i.e. lay another 3G, or revert to grass. No need to decide before then - we'll probably be stuck in NLSouth, so promotion argument academic only.

What is interesting is why Stones seem unable to play well on our 3G when opposing teams seem to love it! My feelings too. I'm pretty sure the EFL will stick to their guns over this. And, when the day finally arrives, we'll tear up the 3G (if we've still got it) and put in grass. I wouldn't be surprised if we switch to grass when the current 3G wears out, anyway. Costs a fortune to replace - think how long you could fund a grass pitch for that money. And hopefully the cost of hybrid pitches will come down over the next few years. But even if we switch to just ordinary grass, the pitches are much better these days. When did we last play on a grass pitch that gave us problems? And, even with the Beast from the East, there weren't that many postponements. I fear that 3G will turn out to be yesterday's 'solution'.

Ahhh life was so much easier back then, we always won, the white horse could fit all the supporters and team in after the game, we all dreamt of the day we would play our football in town, in a proper stadium before we all died, our chairman done almost everything, with everyone else who done as much as they could, we was family, and now we are a bog standard national league south side, that play in a tidy little joint, i honestly think the good Lord could take me now, I'm so happy what a great journey we have been on,

I'm an 80s 'boy', who lived through the JT years - the bullshit and the magic - and didn't experience the Wilderness Years at all. But I still look for the stadium when I cross the high level bridge every morning. And it's still a huge buzz every time. When I first did that walk - pre-2012, I only ever used the back entrance of my kids' school because the main entrance overlooked the old ground, and I couldn't face that every day.

3G taking a right pasting on Radio Five Live this evening. They're having a kind of 'Scottish' evening, covering the Scottish Prem games, with such luminaries as David Moyes on the show. Inevitably, the discussion turned to the whole Kilmarnock thing, and they were off with the same old stuff - ball running fast when it's wet, slow when it's hot, bounce is wrong, you have to adjust the way you run with the ball etc. Moyes waded in with his party piece, talking about his experiences playing on astro turf at Preston, then refusing to update his thinking in line with technology by stating he thinks 'astro pitches' should be banned by the SPL. Trust me, there was much more and none of it good. A right royal shafting.

I think K sports might have something to say about that something like " fu...ff". There is a superb 3G pitch with lights and dug-outs at Invicta Grammar / Valley schools, which would be a far cheaper option that the 'posh' sites like K Sports and Kings Hill sports club that could be used for evening training sessions if we switched to grass. It couldn't be used for daytime training which is the downside, so it would be no good for the academy. I believe other schools in the area have installed similar facilities but again, they won't be available for full daytime training - that's the real problem. www.osgarchitecture.com/project_valley_park_pitch.php
