Thanks for the précis for those who missed it. As usual an honest and thankfully frank interview that hopefully didn’t upset any fans and didn’t malign anyone, but was still revealing. Probably too revealing about our owners thinking and decisions for him to come back to the Stones but wish him really well in getting a really good Management role soon. This is the openness we need from the owners about our current situation. Personally looking at Simon Walton’s playing CV, seeing he’s ready to stop playing and that he’s also 31, is he our new Jay, but with the League experience (albeit as a player not a manager) With Tristan as his No2? Also the interview emphasises the gravity and madness of the mistake in hiring HW when also Jay was told we were hiring a Leaguebexperienced manager - and then got the Dealer in! Shame Jay didn’t take the Macc job - it could have been a different story! Yes, Jay is still a legend. All the best Mr Saunders. It wouldn't surprise me if he goes on to be a successful manager elsewhere. Yet another of those 'Stones rejects', we wonder why we ever let go! And if my speculation about the real story behind his sacking is accurate, he wasn't so much sacked for his summer signings and a poor start to this season, but for his record over the two previous seasons. And if that is the case, then he was grossly unfairly sacked. Despite getting into the NL too early and being pretty much unprepared for it, he managed to keep us up for two seasons. He also managed to twice rebuild the squad when things (largely out of his control) went wrong. He got us as high as 11th in our first season, with a mid-table finish at 14th (only goal difference away from 11th), and in our second season, we got as high as 5th, before finishing at 19th - but only two points off the same place as the first season. A pretty good record under the circumstances. And, at no time were we ever in the situation we're in now - in fact under Jay, we were never in the relegation zone, even after our 17 game winless run after Piggott left. The situation we are in now is not Jay's doing, it is down to the unrealistic expectations of the owners (and, yes, the fans - including me). Jay indicated that his consideration of taking the Macclesfield job changed the dynamic between the owners and himself. The seed was sown, germinated, and fully flourished.

nc Did he really call Sweeney one of our best players? :-) And why wouldn't he. Regular MOTM performances for Barnet. Too many fans weren't prepared to give him a chance but you could see he had it in him to be a very good player. Sweeney is a class defender at NL level. Having seen a couple of full televised matches involving Barnet recently, he looks very confident and commanding on the ball, playing a different role to the one he had when he was with the Stones.

There are a few selected people who know the facts as to what happened between Saunders an the board which led to him leaving the club, now he,s gone an probably never to return surely it is now time to let who ever is the new manager/s to have our full support an not keep talking as if we all want Saunders to return, yes we are grateful for all he achieved for the club an yes he will always be remembered but the time is now right to get behind whoever ends up in charge and try an fight for our survival this season.

I honestly feel that Jay is more honest than the owners, and they do not want FL League status, and all the expense and loss of earnings that pulling up the 4G pitch would bring. They are quite happy bowling along with the Club making a little money. The appointment of the last poor soul as a manager, but I don’t think they knew that he would be that bad. Jay would have been pushing them for better players, he was used to winning. The they wouldn’t have liked that.

Absolutely agree with you, but that doesn't mean that anyone who ever mentions him should get criticised on here. Maybe not you, but there are a couple of people on here who seem to want to erase him from Stones' history altogether and jump on anyone who dares to mention his name.

Er, have you forgotten that the football was sh*te, the performances were sh*te, the manager didn't have a scooby-doo what he was doing and the Directors basically reacted to all the anger being expressed on this Forum.
Or was that Wheeler? I can't remember!

The interview with Saunders has achieved what it was intended to do, and that was to put a wedge between supporters and out brilliant owners who have bought us from nowhere to where we are now. If Saunders was as good as he thinks he is then he would be a number one somewhere else by now.

Does anyone else feel a wedge between the fans and the owners as a result of Jays interview? I don't! I feel frustrated they haven't given SW and TL until the end of the season, but I'm not going to think they are suddenly awful owners..........their only mistake was hiring HW, but they put that right before it went too far - thank God!

I was and still am a fervent supporter of both Jay and the owners! Why has it got to be one or the other🤷🏼♂️ The owners have been fantastic for this football club. Just because I disagreed with Jay being replaced by HW does not make them bad owners!!

Jay was just professional and honest. Just what we would expect. First class interview and well done Radio Kent for getting the interview.

Our owners are strong and Jay is a legend. No change. If I had one teensy weensy wish it would be for the owners to be a little more open with the fans about their thinking. There again the negativity doing that may generate from certain proboard whingers is probably what puts them off!

Jay will always be a Maidstone legend. But it's time to move on with the new era. I'm not interested in PR campaigns or popularity contests. The new managers deserve our complete support as long as they are in post.

Based on what he achieved here he could never be forgotten, but having said that Daveu you must agree there are individuals that seem too reluctant to let go an constantly compare him to other managers.
