We have the 5th best supported club in the league why are we better off in the National South. Yes we need to improve on the field but Harrogate Solihull and others are doing ok. Seems to me we seem to be talking down our club I think if we do suffer relegation we will lose a fair percentage of our current fan base. Not totally convinced of that as fans love a team that wins. We could lose a lot of fans before the end of this season only for them to return with renewed vigour next term with a positive start. Every club loses supporters with relegation including the big clubs. I remember when Newcastle were in the relegation places of the old division 2 and had to beat Portsmouth at home to stay up ,the St James Park 'always faithful'stayed away as I sat in the stand with only 14000 or so others.A few years later they were playing the greats in the Champions league, relegation was a nightmare but they recovered and the way they are playing at the minute they might have to do it again.

Another problem I see with dropping to NLS and making another attempt on the NL, is getting an experienced NL or EFL manager to join us full-time in the NLS for a year (or maybe more).

Some pretty fantastical posts in this thread talking up a return to Stones being a part time outfit in a lower league and losing some fairweather supporters.
Well it ain't going to happen anytime soon, with our owners committed to developing the club and improving the status of the team over the next few seasons.
You can either like it or lump it !

Considering we struggle recruiting good full time players at this level, how the heck are we gonna do it in a lower league?? the full time players we attract are likely to be no better than the good part time one's, yet we will be paying them more money.

I’ve just cheered myself up by watching the highlights from our FA cup victory against Stevenage! If anyone is feeling low go on YouTube and enjoy the moment again
Honestly we will not lose that many fans should we go down! Maybe 20% but no more. Let’s face it we don’t turn out every home game to watch pretty football or a garanteed wins! We managed 3000 last home game having won sweet FA this season. The heart of this team is the fans and unless we are all moving 100 miles away or the owners bugger off the Stones will still be around. Let’s all hope for the best, but expect the worst. I’m going to every game I can get to next season who is with me....?

That's a remarkably optimistic outlook on the current season Nick.
I would certainly agree that whilst there are some arguable positives for supporters in relegation, I am pretty sure that Terry & Oliver would consider relegation to "actually be a bad thing".
But, they're sensible level headed people and not prone to fits of lunacy ala Mandarić and others.
They clearly felt that we were at something of a crisis point seven games into the season - but the budget offered to Harry was apparently the same one that Jay was working to. So there is no indication that they are suddenly going to throw bucket loads of money at the problem. Frankly that's sensible as there is no guarantee that works anyway and given that they apparently increased the budget this year beyond their earlier plans it would be a stupid gamble to throw more good money after bad.
Hopefully if T & S present a compelling case for a given player, they might be prepared to loosen the purse strings slightly, but I think Sean Shields indicates that they are not going to go mad.
I don't for one second doubt Terry and Oliver's desire to keep us up, but they are not going to bankrupt us for the chance of one more season in the Conference and even if they thought of it there are no guarantees.
So, even though I actually feel more positive about this season than since Saunders left (and maybe a short while after Harry's initial meet & greet impressed me) - we are still odds on to go down (but not down yet) to be honest and whatever the result we will indeed have to like it or lump it.
Unless certain sections of the supporters join in Tristan & Simon's love in though I don't think we'll generate the togetherness that is needed. (we have people bitching about Tristan Lewis, Jake Robinson, Josh Taylor, Ethan Ross, Jack Paxman - I'm sure I've missed some. I think I'm turning jakeyboi, but isn't it time we started to actually to suppor the whole team)

It's been OK for me this season because, of the few games I have been at, we have won a reasonable percentage of them. On the question itself...it won't make masses of difference to me. I'll hope we have Torquay back with us. If we stay up, I'll try and get to Harrogate (as I don't think I'll get there this season) and if we go down I'll hope we get Truro in August/September or April. While 61666 doesn't believe in looking back, all I'll say is that, since reformation, we've stalled before and, on one occasion, fallen back a bit. We still got to the NL.

Nobody can be optimistic about this season, I did say development over the next few seasons. The owners are in it for the long haul, for better or for worse, thank goodness and the journey at times will be bumpy. But getting right fed up with some of the perpetual moaners on this forum. Think I'll take some time out. Early start and a long trip tomorrow.

But actually I thought this particular thread was more level headed than most.
Enjoy the trip tomorrow, oh and don't forget to bring the points back!

It’s obvious that the Directors are happy in this division, the Clubs solvent and even making money. I think it’s why Jay had to go. He tried too hard, and would have done his utmost at all levels to get the Club into the FL. That did not fit in with the owners plans, pulling the pitch up would have meant loss of revenue, and more money would have neede to be spent on the ground. I wonder when they will be ready, or should they sell, and let someone else make the push. Jay was a victim of his own success.

You may disagree with his theory, but maybe we should all start trying to limit the name calling when someone posts a different opinion to your own. Then we might actually be getting somewhere. Do you do this in your everyday life when someone says something you disagree with?
