Yes, I know there is at least one other thread, but since Wheeler left, the forum seems to have turned in on itself and there is some seriously toxic stuff flying around. Gawd knows why, the wobbly wheel has gone, so we can look forward with a degree of optimism for the first time in weeks. Ok, it could still go tits up on Saturday, but I think we are entitled to expect a far more positive performance than of late. Ok, not necessarily like the one the other MU got at Cardiff, but hopefully refreshing enough to get a draw. So, by all means continue to knock lumps off each other in the other posts, but how about some positivity in this one? We know that the team will contain Worner and WDH, plus presumably Cassidy, Romain/Robertson, Walton, Phillips and McClellan. Add in our new winger whose name escapes me and that makes eight or nine. Paxman and Wishart the others? The team will be a fascinating pointer as to how things will be for the next few games at least, with a real chance for everyone to stake a claim. COYS!

I originally had us down for a 4-0 defeat but I am now convinced the tide will turn and we will triumph 2-1 or 1-0. The sacking of Harry has lifted a huge weight off of eveybodys shoulders.COYS!!.

Indeed. And whoever it contains will tell us a lot about Wheeler's regime and especially how Lewis and Walton viewed things.

I'd say I was quite optimistic with my opening to the other thread "I am going to see this one. I think we will turn in a good performance. Let's stop the moaning and get behind the team. 3 points is a must!"

The Friday interview was a breath of fresh air. No rash promises, just a lot of common sense. Whatever is Wheeler's management style, it seems to include a fear factor, which only works if you are continually winning - as exemplified by dictators throughout history. Tristan Lewis and Simon Walton have the potential to make a good partnership. Tristan is clearly aiming at the feel good factor. The man displays high emotional intelligence and realises how important the fans are and getting the team to play without fear. Simon Walton is being relied upon for his playing (tactical?) experience. Whether that is good enough at this level is another matter, for every other club in the league has a wealth of coaching badges to fall back on. Short term at least though, it might just work and I wish them well. It can't be any worse (really, it can't!) than the last few weeks. Who knows, by keeping things simple and allowing players to express themselves, there is every chance we can surprise a few teams, starting today. Longer term, to the end of the season, I think they will need someone with experience to support them, as we know how quickly opposing teams find you out in this league and would guess that is what the owners have in mind. So, very good luck to them. They are doing and saying all the right things and already the Club feels like a better place. They deserve a bit of luck and to do well. COYS!!!

Redknapp at West Ham used to say he couldn't really influence what went on on the pitch - he just bought the players, got them ready and selected the side, then he let them play.
I'll admit this approach didn't exactly give me confidence - especially when he made substitutions (or not!). But, when we had a really good squad, with players who worked well together and wanted to play good football (the DiCanio years), it worked well.
It looks like Harry was a very controlling manager - the exact opposite of Redknapp's approach - and this clearly didn't work. It forced players to play out of position and in ways they didn't feel comfortable with, and there was no security - you were only as good as Harry's opinion of your last performance.
So, hopefully, letting them "express themselves" will at least mean a happier side and better football (although anyone expecting an overnight revolution might be a little disappointed, given today's opposition!). There were several references in the interview to the pressure having been relieved and players feeling relieved and happy. So that at least should have a positive effect.
And, on a personal note, this is the first game I have looked forward to since Barnet. COYS!

Sounded like a very good first half for Stones, albeit bricking it a bit at times. BW a good side though. Can we hang on, or do even better come second half?
