Unless we have to take back some of our loan players we are very short at the moment. This will be obvious on Saturday when key players are cup tied. We need 3 or 4 players added to the squad and if we have a temporary management team will they be permitted to recruit?

Found myself looking at the Transfermarkt website when checking Stones on Google. Probably less reliable than Wiki, but shows the only player who has a contract beyond June this year is Wishart, who goes to 2020. Is this right? Some fanciful transfer values too. However, if they are all free agents after this season, if we don't improve, I can't see players being overly loyal in such circumstances

Although I initially thought the best thing to do would gain some stability and name them until the end of the season, maybe this will add a little more motivation all round to get the best possible results from the next 3 games? TL and SW look like they want to stay and it seems the players wants them to stay, best way to ensure that is to get some good results from the remaining games in January, lets hope that gives them all the motivation they need. Equally, even if we can only pick up 3 points I would still be surprised if a new manager was brought in, maybe 0 points from the 3 games but I highly doubt the cost of bringing in someone else with the 'experience needed' is appealing to the owners right now I agree it is a good move. We are only 2 listless displays away from "we should have appointed a manager with NL experience" and "we have gone for the cheap option again" from the usual suspects. I agree that these 2 seem to be a breath of fresh air though and long may this mini (very mini) revival continue. I would, however, like to see SW lining up this Saturday as I would like to see how he would play the DCM role. Totally agree (except perhaps for the last sentence).
We only get to know what's said in public, but Tris'n'Si seemed comfortable with the idea that they are there "as long as wanted".
New managers often get a short honeymoon period of wonderful results as the mood changes in the dressing room, so there's no proof yet that they know what they are doing (although I'm hopeful).
On the other hand, I doubt that they have been given a points target for the next 3 games that is the difference between the chop or continuing. Although it wouldn't help our season much, three spirited but unlucky defeats would probably still make them the best option for the rest of the season, but if the magic and belief looks to have gone that would be a different matter.
Just a couple of notable phrases though.
“They have the backing of the board" - There it is the dreaded vote of confidence!
"The directors intend to consider all their options and will make a further announcement by the end of the month."
So that's by the end of the month, not at the end of the month.
To me it reads more like, "we asked you to be caretakers for a couple of games while we decided what to do, we still haven't decided so keep going for a bit."
I think options are being kept totally open here. Some more decent performances in the coming weeks though and I think one option becomes quite obviously the best.

It is a good site for seeing who is available, and for looking at free agents. I'm quite sure managers across the land use it for that purpose.

All joking aside. What if ? That depends on other results if the rest of the bottom 6 have a nightmare 2 games then we will be laughing but as we saw on Saturday they to can win. We could win 2 games and find ourselves worse off on goal difference. I wasn't impressed by the decision of the board it should have been rest of the season or nothing so yet another error from on high.

That's harsh sword. I like the cut of our dynamic duo but the owners are right to hedge their bets.

That's harsh sword. I like the cut of our dynamic duo but the owners are right to hedge their bets. I think it unfair that they are given only 3 weeks or so to undo the Wheeler 'mess'. I believe they should have been given the rest of the season to keep us up with yhe dangly carrott of a one year contract should they be successful. Should they fail then its next PLEASE.

Yes it could have been nicer to give SW and TL to season end but the owners are being cautious which is unsurprising after the Wheeler Dealer disaster so we just need to keep getting points and results to keep them there. I think it’ll happen and I don’t think there is a quality Messiah who could takeover from them in January and keep us up. It’s the squad that needs sorting - get our loaned out players back, make sure our loaned in players stay to season end, and maybe one or two new signings tops as appropriate with SW taking to the field if need be.
