Watching this with some interest as a Fleet fan. I actually want Maidstone to do well, but dismissing Jay and appointing Wheeler surprised me. What would really surprise me more is McMahon being appointed, you, like us, need an experienced Manager in my humble opinion . Anyway good luck.

Harry Wheeler's time at Maidstone United in quotes (Kent Online) Harry Wheeler packed a lot into his short spell as Maidstone manager. The club were looking for an experienced boss after Jay Saunders’ exit but were blown away by 30-year-old Wheeler during the interview process. He breezed into the Gallagher on the back of a treble-winning season at Billericay and Maidstone were confident they had found their man. There were sweeping changes, including five new signings in one day, and the team appeared to be on the up after two wins in his first three games. But his reign started to unravel after a 5-2 loss at Havant - the first of five straight defeats - and his position looked untenable after the 3-1 defeat at Dover on Boxing Day saw fans demand a change.
Here, we take a look at some of the memorable quotes from Wheeler’s four months at the Gallagher following news of his exit.
Paying tribute to Jay Saunders after taking charge “He's done a brilliant job here and we have to make it clear I'm not here to replace him. "I don't think anyone can replace what he achieved and no one's here to do that. "It's a brilliant achievement that he can hold with him for a very, very long time. "We're here to give it something different now and hopefully have the same success."
Stones co-owner Terry Casey was thrilled with the appointment "The shortlist we composed was a very strong list of applicants but on reflection Harry was just miles ahead in everything. "He had everything we wanted and his passion for the game was second to none. "I don't see the appointment as a risk at all. I see it as a massive step forward for the club at all levels.”
Wheeler vows to give everyone a chance but was soon making big changes to the squad "There's ideas but there's good players here and everyone gets an opportunity. "This is a blank canvas. Everyone gets their opportunity first and then we go, 'OK, where do we need to strengthen?'"
A short contract didn’t worry the new manager “If you're good enough, it's going to be longer. "If I was worried about that then I'm worried about my ability. "You do it until the end of the season and if you're good enough you will already have earned a new deal.” Age was no issue for Wheeler after taking the job "You get that instant respect once people know you're good enough and the players will see that straight away. "From there, there's never going to be an issue with experience. "I've not met any 30-year-olds that have done 11 years."
Wheeler’s first game in charge ends in defeat “We learned a lot, more than we wanted to learn. “That's probably a little bit harsh but it's a big eye-opener. "You know some things and then I've just said to someone in there, once you see it, you really know it.” Simon Walton, after becoming Wheeler’s first signing “I described him the other day as new-school but old-school. “He knows what the game's all about now, he knows what you have to do to win games. “But he still brings that old-school discipline and professionalism, whereas at some places everyone's got to have a philosophy and all these magical words that get thrown about here, there and everywhere. “I hate that word, philosophy. You might get away with it in the Premier League but I'm not quite sure you need a philosophy down here. “The philosophy is to get three points, surely?”
No one could doubt Wheeler’s commitment as he chased new signings “All the hard work, from Saturday night last week when I was meant to be at a wedding, sitting there on the phone, till literally 5 o’clock yesterday, it was non-stop, so it’s been worth it. “I got there very late and sat in the corner on my phone, so I wasn’t very sociable at all, but priorities…
Wheeler admits he got it wrong against Bromley I probably take a little bit of the flak for the first half. Maybe we didn’t set up well enough. “We stayed with what we’ve been doing recently because it’s been working.” "I like to be ruthless on every single occasion and take advantage of every occasion. "The most ruthless people are the people who get to the top in life. "I don’t feel we’ve got enough of that at the moment.”
Hard work was the minimum requirement under Wheeler "I’m not here to persuade people and ask people to work hard. "If you don’t want to do it then you don’t have to be here."
Captain Stuart Lewis leaves the Gallagher for Dover I was Jay’s captain and it’s been a tough time with him going. “It’s been a difficult period for the club, something I’ve been part of as well. “Jay’s been brilliant for me and is someone I hold in high regard. “It has been difficult with the change of manager but that’s nothing against Harry. Wheeler questions side after AFC Fylde defeat “It shouldn't be difficult to concentrate. We train regularly enough."I'm asking you to concentrate for an hour and 35 minutes out of 24 hours in your whole day, so it's not asking for a lot percentage-wise.” Wheeler finally persuades Dagenham to part with Elliott Romain "If I want something I don’t stop. I’m relentless. "You can’t win them all but you’ll win as many as you can and in the end we won that one.”
Happy with progress after 1-1 draw at Ebbsfleet I don't count the first game against Harrogate because that wasn't my team, so it's eight points from seven games. "We’re picking up points while we’re on a rebuilding period. "For a club that I think had won one in eight and didn’t win in 17 last year, we’ll take eight points from the start when we’re rebuilding.”
Wheeler reveals how a dressing-room row triggered their FA Cup victory over Macclesfield “Sometimes it needs to have a little bit more of an aggressive environment at half-time to get a different reaction, and we managed to do that. “It doesn’t come naturally to me as a character but it does when it’s down to my job, because it’s my life. “I live and breathe it and if they’re messing with something that might affect my career then it’s comes very, very naturally.
Seth Nana Twumasi was one of a number of popular players to move on "We went on a run of four really tough fixtures unbeaten and the last two they turn up like that. "Sometimes there’s no longevity in certain people’s quality." "You feel like you're always walking on eggshells where you play one game, you do well, you don't play the next game as well as he wants and then you're out the team. "You're not going to gain momentum like that."
Wheeler calls for respect after touchline argument with a fan during Eastleigh game "He voiced his opinion and I tried to speak to him gently and he didn’t want to do that. "You’re always open to have a conversation but we’re not open to take abuse. "I think he was out of order. "There’s a way to voice your opinion and there’s a way not to voice your opinion. "You’ll get no respect back from us if you don’t give it the other way.”
Wheeler vows to stop tinkering in one of his final interviews "They're great players and we don't need to keep tweaking it and we're not looking to tweak it any more. "If the odd thing comes up or we have a long-term injury, then we'll look to strengthen again but at the moment we're quite happy with what's here."

Be interesting where Harry next turns up as a manager, I think his time here will be a long term disaster for him when it comes to getting another job.

Not sure it will be a huge negative in the long term. He must have learnt a hell of a lot in his time with us. If he takes it on board he will be stronger and better placed to progress in the future. Probably needs to drop down a couple of divisions, maybe get a job as an assistant and work his way up again. The advantage of being such a young manager is that he has time on his side to still go a long way in the game if that's what he wants.

Maybe dropping down a couple of divisions will be too much for both his ego an his bank balance to cope with.

The last few months were a step to far for him, but I bear him no personal animosity and hope he uses the experience to make him a better manager in the future.

Will the new manager do a press interview talking about 'the mess' he inherited? Were he to do so I doubt he'd get the negative reaction Harry got to his. Depends if you think things were a mess under Jay. I didn't. Harry took "mess" to a whole new level.

Were he to do so I doubt he'd get the negative reaction Harry got to his. He'd get exactly the same reaction, for exactly the same reasons. The fault was not the people reacting, it was the person giving the interview. Don't blame the messenger. I'm surprised by the reaction to my comment.
It looked obvious to me that were the new manager to talk of inheriting a mess the supporters would agree with that comment whereas when Harry said it the supporters either didn't agree or didn't want to acknowledge that he might have been right.
I have no facts as to whether Harry was right or wrong. However I still believe it was a very stupid thing to say out loud.

I'll help you out...harry was wrong in most fans' opinion. True, and I was one of them. However you've used 'opinion' whereas I deliberately used 'facts' because I didn't know what was actually happening within the club.
